Kuroken and Gouka are known as the 'firefly twins', though they share no blood relation. For that matter, the firefly swarms that surround them are almost certainly manifestations of elemental power rather than real insects. They are two of the most respected and feared dragons in the Wintergale, because they protect the Snowsquall Clan's nests; though they prefer to simply chase away threats so as not to threaten the eggs, neither will hesitate for an instant to kill if necessary. Gouka's fireflies bombard enemies in blinding waves, with each individual pinpoint becoming a laser-like blur of flame. Her relentless magic is usually enough to send an intruder fleeing. Against the few more determined foes, she lets Kuroken occupy their attention while constantly maneuvering to land strikes against the enemy's weakest points.

Outside of battle, the twins combine their magic to ensure that the clan's nests, as well as any adopted eggs, remain at the perfect temperature for each individual's needs. They also help care for the hatchlings. Gouka entertains the youngest ones with brilliant displays of fireworks, and is nearly always game for a few rounds of hide and seek—most of which she 'accidentally' loses by letting a stray firefly give her away.
