I'll tell you a story, little one.

In the quiet of the night in The Tangled Wood, a hatchling stumbled around alone. She didn't know how she got there. She didn't know why. She was just cold, and afraid, and wanted so desperately to be gone, gone from the forest of the looming trees and their glowing blue teeth.

Somehow she found a clearing. And when she looked up, she saw a beautiful night sky. The stars were faintly twinkling, and she knew, if she flew toward them, she would be free.

But then the stars started to move, as if crashing down to earth. The hatchling yelped, ducked, and closed her eyes. It was the end of the world, and she would die alone, alone surrounded by, bugs?

When she opened her eyes, she was covered with stars that brushed her lightly with insect legs. She tried shaking these star-flies off, but they would always come back to land on her.

So she gave up. She curled up, and as she slowly got used to the feeling of the bugs tickling her nose, her eyelids slowly fluttered close. And when she opened them, the benevolent light of dawn guided her to the sky.

When she finally arrived home, her clanmates, instead of welcoming her back, gawked at her. "You turned into a night sky," one said. So she looked, and a few of the same star-bugs had managed to stick with her during the flight. They danced around her, as if to a gentle rhythm. One landed on her nose.
The hatchling smiled, then sneezed. "I twinkle brightly thanks to these brilliant friends."
