You never see him with the same dragon twice.

It's not any of your business, but he's difficult to ignore. Everything about him, from his outfit, to the way he moves like he's on a stage, to the shards that seem to make up his entire hide, catches your gaze in a way you have to assume is intentional.

It certainly seemed to have worked on the Wildclaw sat beside him. She wore a silk scarf and a spellbound expression, hanging onto his every word as he held onto hers. They talked for hours, not that you were paying much attention with how busy you were, and eventually pushed out their seats, making their way towards the exit with tails intertwined.

You noticed the owner behind the counter, eyes locked on their retreat. They pass through the double doors, and though he scrunched his nose, he looked away.

A few nights later, he's alone at the bar, chatting with the barkeep while he was fixed a drink. They're not exactly arguing, you think, but the discussion does not seem entirely friendly. While the owner attempted to keep his voice down, the Pearlcatcher didn't seem to take issue with being overheard.

"I have to eat too, my dear. While I wouldn't ever turn down your generous hospitality, it does end up lacking somewhat." Though he was wearing a mask, you think he might have smiled. The thought makes you sick to your stomach.

You couldn't hear the apparently accusatory response, but he seemed to scoff at it. "No, no, of course not. What do you take me for? I have standards. I've followed your silly guidelines thus far, haven't I?"

After another few minutes of back and forth, you stopped listening to the conversation, but occasionally swept an eye over. At precisely ten, he stood to leave, but paused as if in sudden recollection. From beneath his robe, he procured an object. It wasn't much larger than his hand.

"I almost forgot. A gift, to brighten up an evening dreary," He said, placing the crystalline statue onto the counter with a flourish.

You get a good look at it as he makes his exit, the amethyst held surprising detail for all of its facets. It was the stunning likeness of a dragon. One with thin feathers, small indents for eyes, and draped in a crystal shawl.
