Biography
Navani is a distressingly-shaped beast from another side of reality, who came to pay respects to the king and hung around because he liked the Vibe. Navani found himself in a forest clearing full of strange things, and yet the king gave off such intense waves of power that he put everything else to shame.
He came to pay respects to the king for the same reason a lot of the other fey things in the kingdom did. The Watchful King defeated a powerful fae court, and Navani came from a realm that court was uh......eating
He's trying to slime himself into an Important Position while attracting as little attention as possible. He's trying to be discreet, because by allying himself with the Watchful he's going to make enemies.
He wants to get close to the king to study his power. He doesn't truly know the nature of the power - after last time that's a pretty closely-guarded secret - but he can just Feel how absurdly strong it is and he wants to know what it is, and then he'll figure out how to exploit it. Navani used to be a relatively average beast, for his kind. He still is. He wants that to Change. He doesn't want to be average.
He definitely misses home, and can physically return whenever he likes, but slipping between realities isn't a subtle act and he's not sure what his welcome will be like. Navani didn't leave his home on bad terms, but he's shown favour to a kingdom that many of his kin fear, want dead, or both, so if word's travelled back a trip home wouldn't end well for him
The only member of the kingdom Navani actively dislikes is the Unfettered, because it got into the king's good books early and seems to genuinely care for him. The rest, he's wary of because they might try to take the power he seeks.
The Unfettered would be a clear threat, simply because it cares for the king and has a lot of otherworldly power to weild as a weapon. As would Augur who sees as many possible futures as she has eyes. Would be easy for her to see where Navani plans to go if he makes it there in any other timeline.
Ironically, the Watchful are now growing so powerful they probably rival the court they defeated. And that's why Navani's home realm, and many others in a similarly diminished position, fear the Watchful. If the king, or his ilk, get hungry....their problems might not be over
