______ Richard is a sweet southern soul with a gentle disposition and an affinity for fussing over others, though this constant fussing occasionally leads him into fits of erratic, almost paranoid behavior. Past experience (namely, a past partner) has taught him to always fear for his loved ones' safety, becoming anxious if they're out of his sight for more than a moment. Unfortunately, his paranoia also occasionally manifests as fear of his loved ones, fretting over what they may think of him if he leaves them untended for too long.

Richard has long since separated himself from the individual that ingrained this behavior into him, though he continues to blame himself for everything that went wrong, convinced that he could’ve “done more” or “been better.” (When in truth, he gave far more care and concern than he ever should have.) At least in regards to his newest company, his anxieties are almost always unfounded, though he will often still need comfort and reassurance to bring him down from a nervous fit.

While he does house his fair share of odd quirks and strange behaviors, Richard is an utter sweetheart through and through, and one of the most loyal, considerate companions one can find. His support isn't all that difficult to gain, either: so long as you treat him kindly, he'll go to the ends of the world to return the favor and then some.

______ Being an alleged "veterinarian," Richard is hardly ever seen without a cat or two by his side. He was raised to follow in his father’s footsteps (i.e., his questionable career) to some degree of success, and as such is quite knowledgeable in feline anatomy, biology, and genealogy. The two Devians’ temperaments differ greatly, however: whereas his father is cold, harsh, and demanding, Richard is gentle, patient, and compassionate—almost detrimentally so. It’s no surprise then that Richard is the favorite amongst the feline population, appearing to treat them more as “friends” or even “family” rather than pets, going so far as to hold conversations with them, remember their birthdays, and so-on.

The most notable among the furry creatures living in the Devians’ household is a Longhorn Capricat (Mainecoon in canon) by the name of “McMike.” Richard raised him since he was a kitten, and having been rather young himself at the time, accidentally stuttered while trying to name the cat “Mike,” resulting in “McMike.” Both names are used interchangeably however, with “Mike” being a shorter sort of nickname.

The two of them are impossibly close, with Mike acting as a small, fuzzy shadow to Richard, constantly weaving between his feet, trailing after him, or simply perching on Richard’s shoulder. He loves to climb his larger companion any chance he can get—almost as much as he loves to be held by him (or anyone, really). Needless to say, wherever Richard goes, McMike is sure to follow.
