GRAND MARQUIS
KILLIAN EVANGELISTE DE DAMASCENA  With courage, I face the dawn. Poised to take over from the Duke is Grand Marquis Killian Damascena, one of only two surviving children of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess. Killian has, as all children of the Great Noble Houses, lived a life in dichotomy. Whilst as a child he never wanted for anything, lavished with the most expensive clothes and food one could dream of, he was also forced into gruelling tests from the day he first drew breath. He is a prodigy, a fast learner and resilient to the agonising procedures he goes through to get stronger, quicker, more magically inclined. But for the majority of his life it leaves him a resentful and venomous boy, quick to anger and quick to make it someone else's problem. He despises his entire family, his entire existence. He hones himself into a weapon in desperation for his father's attention, a desire which is never fulfilled. In an event which few even know of, the Duke disappears into an extra-planar portal. Quincy glimpses the void and it drives him more mad than he already was. With the Duke gone, Killian and Quincy cannot remain without having to challenge their mother, the Grand Duchess- and they all know that she would win. And so Killian is unceremoniously exiled. Temporarily, at least. He begins a journey across the Wasteland where he takes even more anger out, manipulating entire towns just to turn them against each other, or others wreaking havoc with his magic before disappearing. It is in this state that he meets someone who changes the direction of his life. Said someone is also in exile, though for very different reasons. The wandering samurai, royal-born Tenkubashi Akairen, meets Killian in a chance encounter. Killian, still full of hate, stays with him in an attempt to sabotage his life; but instead, he falls head over heels in love for him. Ren is the first person in his entire life who shows him real, genuine kindness. He does not do it to buy favour, does not do it because he must. He is just kind. It is here that he begins to change. He is, eventually, called back to Lys and back to Damask Rose. Ren follows, and they live in a tense world where the now-returned Duke attempts to experiment on the both of them, barely held back by Killian's newfound tenacity. He has been taught a valuable lesson: he is not who his family says he is. He is Killian Damascena. And yes, he will one day be Grand Duke, and he will never slow down and never stop marching towards that goal, but he can also just be himself. It breaks his heart when Akairen leaves, attempting to return home to his own land, but Killian knows: they will see each other again. As you would expect from the Great Noble House of Damask Rose, Killian is a man of magnetism. He holds himself with a comfortable grace: whilst the scars of his older, crueller self may remain to some degree, he treats most people with dignity and amiableness until he finds them simply too disagreeable to continue. His magical speciality is chronomancy, the ability to manipulate time in a controlled area. It is an incredibly difficult field of study to master, one he is still working on, but a testament to the vigour of his spirit. Thoughtful and introspective yet still very much a Damask mage, Killian is always planning his next move yet equally trying to minimise the amount of undue suffering that his actions may cause. He knows now what it means to come back from the brink, where the point of no return lies.
