The clan was in trouble. That was all the Shadowbinder had told him before she sent him away. “Go, my son,” she said with a wave of her claws. She smiled beneath the thick substance dripping from her eyes. “Save them. Let them know their goddess has not abandoned them.” And so he went, never once questioning the Shadowbinder’s will.

He had had no name then, nor did he have a corporeal form. Neither discrepancy lasted long, as he took the form of the first dragon he saw: a powerful Imperial, deep red and glimmering. He listened closely to the Imperial’s Pearlcatcher companion and heard how she called him “Limper”. So, he took that as his name as well. He smiled as he turned away from the Imperial and his companion. It would be best to approach the clan as something familiar rather than a vague force.

When he reached the clan, Limper saw the few remaining members struggling to rebuild their lair. The Shadowbinder’s pain for her people echoed in his heart. He needed to instate himself as their protector before the next attack came. Moving to the center of their home, Limper raised his voice, “Heed the Shadowbinder’s words! She has sent me to guard you. Come and greet your protector!’

“He’s lying. Look at his scales.”

“Mama, I’m scared. Who is that? Why is he yelling?”

“Go back to the Plaguebringer! We aren’t fools!”

A Spiral approached Limper, hate and distrust in her deep purple eyes. “We will not accept agents of the Plaguebringer in our lands,” she said. Her tail lashed like a whip. “I order you to leave my clan in peace. We will kill you if we must.”

The flesh Limper had taken as his own betrayed him and drowned his mind in fear. He fled, neither knowing nor caring where he was fleeing to. In his haste, he neglected the Shadowbinder and left the Tangled Wood behind him.

Limper stopped to rest near the border with Dragonhome, panting heavily from his desperate flight. It was then he heard the Shadowbinder’s voice. “You have failed me,” she said. “You have taken flesh and fled like a helpless animal before a hunter. I must now waste my power sending another in your stead. But do not despair. I may have a use for you yet.”

“What is it, master?” Limper called into the wind. “What must I do to regain your trust?”

“Go into the Earthen lands,” the Shadowbinder commanded. “There is a clan in the far North that does not hear my voice. Go there and act as my ambassador to them. I will not have one of my own wander without purpose.”

“As you please, master,” Limper replied, bowing his head. He leaped up and winged his way North. He had to show his loyalties to the Shadowbinder, no matter what it took.

- Can teleport at will, but only when calm and with the energy to do so
- Has a very loud voice
