Clan Healer

Gentle, kind, soft-spoken, strong-willed.

In the aftermath of a great massacre, a lone water egg washed ashore the edges of the Wandering Contagion and rested there, undisturbed and slowly dying. It was upon this sight that Wraith and his company stumbled, wounded after their own fight with a nearby Water clan.

"We should destroy it." said Pasithea, wary of the egg's flight allegiance. "Our clan is weak to Water, and this is an omen upon us."

"No," soothed Kalma, looking closer upon the barnacles attached to the egg. "It is a blessing from the Broodmother. We should hatch it and raise it as one of our own, a formidable member of our tribe."

"Let Scythe decide." Wraith mused, wrinkling a lip at the foreign object. And thus Pasithea snatched it in her small claws, and they trudged home with their new burden.

Upon returning and displaying their discovery to Scythe, the Ridgeback looked upon the egg with curiosity and a twisted grin, granting them permission to keep it. As time passed and the egg hatched, Sirona came to grow in a clan that was simultaneously wary of her and optimistic for her growth. Her care often befell Siren, an old and respected Water dragon in the Ruin Clan, who could teach her both her ancestral customs and the ways of her current home. As she grew, Sirona realized a love for healing, and pursued apprenticeship under Pyre. He agreed, and she flourished under his critical and analytical eye.

Occasionally, new recruits to the clan would join with intent to train for service under the Plaguebringer. Non-Plagueling dragons struggled in the harsh environment and Sirona strengthened her skills by caring for them. But not all were so lucky.

"I don't understand." An adolescent Sirona whispered to Pyre, distraught as the Guardian before her drew his final breath. "He was recovering so well."

"Not all can adapt in the face of foreign disease." Pyre comforted softly, his face stoic as always.

"I should've been better. I should've been able to save him!" She shouted, turning to him in anger and desperation.

"Do not think yourself the Plaguebringer, child." He admonished, his tone dark and sinister. "Those who cannot survive her tests do not deserve to serve her."

Startled, Sirona lowered her head. "I can't accept that. I must do better."

"If you go down that path, you will suffer. Your mind will weaken with doubt. If your mind weakens, your body weakens, and you too will be unfit for the Mother." Pyre said harshly, turning away to look after another patient.

His words struck Sirona and she resented him for his negativity, but over time she grew to understand his mindset. The respected Fae did not doom patients that were struggling. He simply gave reason for the loss, so that it would not consume him with grief and doubt.

Still, Sirona promised herself, she would do all she could to ensure that was never the fate of those she loved in the clan of Ruin.
