Palancar loves shiny, colorful things. As a hatchling he spent most of his time searching the Viridian Labyrinth for treasures, and when he grew up he set off in search of new riches. He met Caledonia while selling crystals in the Starwood Strand, and eventually his charm won over her singular mind and they became mates. When Caledonia decided to relocate her experiments to the Sea of a Thousand Currents ("Marine life! Untapped potential!") he agreed and followed her.

Initially they camped along the shore, Caledonia spending long hours researching mollusks while Palancar scouted reefs and tide pools for brightly colored fish and possible shipwrecks. While scouting one day, Palancar ran across Chironex, who was diving for fish and valuable shells. Palancar bartered with him for a bit for some particularly lustrous shells, and after they reached an agreement Chironex invited the pair to visit his clan. Wave extended an invitation for the pair to stay, and they agreed.

Palancar keeps track of the clan's hoard of riches, and does all of the trading and bartering for goods the clan doesn't have. He has an eye for quality and a nose for bargains, and the other dragons of the clan often bring him lists of items they'd like him to look for.

There are also times when he decides the clan must save, and no one argues about hoarding their riches, knowing that he will eventually put them to good use.
