Burning eyes pin him as a hatchling of the Ashfall Waste, but the dragon himself speaks little of his past, be it his birth clan, how he acquired the knowledge of fauna and flora he possesses, or how he came to the Labyrinth.

Since wandering into the lair Daika and Servic had begun building, Kovu still keeps mostly to himself. He spends his days out in the swamp, away from the crush of clanmates, observing and gathering samples of- well, it looks a lot like ‘anything’ or ‘whatever catches his eye’-flora and fauna, and apparently making sense of the comings and goings of the wildlife.

Only Morrigan, the biologist, seems to understand when Kovu speaks of ‘hydric soil’ and ‘biotopes’.

He’ll tolerate company, and even the occasional question, if the dragon keeps quiet and doesn’t scare off the wildlife.

Due to his roaming, Kovu has the misfortune [in his opinion] of finding the young Seekers who’ve lost their way in the Labyrinth. Depending on his patience on that particular day, he may be quite snappish with the poor derg.
