Draped in silks and shawls, the ridgeback presents herself as a humble fortune teller and wanderer of the Starksand Dunes and Windswept Delta. Few have seen her face, as the upper half is hidden by an elaborate headdress. Nonetheless she greets any and all with utmost respect, offering wisdom and blessings to any who ask, having committed herself to the life of a sage.
Many claim her to be a fraud. There is fear in this hatred, fear of Tetai the shade-touched. Beings of intense bloodlust, irrational and violent. A monster and a witch, cursed to walk aimlessly forever until the hot sand burns her feet beyond recognition and the sweltering desert heat melt her wings, the shifting sands wear down her scales to the bone. However, to the homeless and orphaned, she is simply Mother Tetai, the rising sun. A generous and loving mother to all lost in the desert. |

She speaks not of her Mother and Father, of her murderous shade-tainted brother, or the countless atrocities committed against her, or the blood on her talons that will never wash away. To the Shadeborne, this life free of sin, of suffering, is atonement. She believes that not all who are born in darkness or in poverty are destined for evil.
It is this belief that drew her to the path of a holy woman, that drove her to take in lost dragons, young and old, in pursuit of creating her own Oasis. Perhaps in her heart she believes she might one day see her surviving son, Neviar once again. And if not, that her late brothers and sisters may have a family in the celestial realm, when all who were born and brought into her sanctuary eventually succumb to the sands of time. |

Her three successors and noble followers are to care for those in her sanctuary should the Shade take over her body. The three ridgebacks, Uta, Yen, and father to Neviar, Renji. This is of course, until her adoptive son, Galen, is to be of age to take her place. Though he shows little interest in the position at his young age. Despite all of this, however, all can attest that Tetai cares for one dragon above all else. Her humble servant and most prized possession, the frail blind Skydancer known only as Euram. Indeed, she would give anything for her, and surely Euram in turn would follow her master to the ends of this earth. |
