Biography
Acropora Guardian of Tides Acropora closes his eyes, allowing himself to sink deeper down into the expanse of water. It’s peaceful in the bottom of the ocean. It’s so calm. The gentle croons of whales and clicks of dolphins fill his world. Small clusters of fish swim around him as if he were a deity. The soft, golden light he emits glows a little brighter as he takes a deep breath in. He holds his trident and tilts it left slightly. Over the next couple of hours, the water will continue moving towards the shore, until the next time he moves his trident right. His days are made of quiet interactions with marine life and the lulling job of controlling the tides. It’s pleasant and soothing, but always so lonely. But it’s his job, so he waits, hoping for someone to finally meet and something to finally happen. By- Auraelia It was a while before the news reached Acropora's small abode in the Fishspine Reef. The Tidelord has gone missing? It seemed impossible. After all these years of his monotonous life controlling the tides, the Tidelord had abandoned him. Acropora watched the fish slowly glide around him. This couldn't be so. Acropora studied his trident, and then gulped, slowly releasing his grip on its shiny metal surface. His fingers ached as he unclenched his fist, which had been holding the trident for many years. Again, Acropora hesitated, glancing at the seaweed surrounding him, and the turtles swimming up above. Suddenly, he jumped up, abandoning his post, just as the Tidelord had done to him. Acropora felt free as he swam through the crystal blue waters, and breached the surface, feeling the hot sun on his scales. He basked for a moment, in complete ecstasy, before remembering why he was leaving. He sighed, and continued swimming towards the shore. During his swim Acropora tried to sort out his plan. He knew what he wanted: Answers, but he didn't know how to go around getting them. This was all very exciting, and even now, Acropora began to regret his decision. Though dull, his life had been peaceful and easy, but now he was tired and hungry, and cross at the Tidebringer for disappearing. Acropora decided that he would travel to the Sunbeam ruins, for help. This part of the plan especially excited Acropora because he had been all by his lonesome for decades. After that, he would take the dangerous trek down to the Spiral Keep, where the Tidelord was supposed to live. Acropora shuddered at the thought of such a perilous journey, but he reminded himself that this was his chance, to break free. That night Acropora dug a small burrow into the sand in the Tsunami Flats. The course sand scratched his back and dug their way in between his scales, which made Acropora again, long for the soft sand and kelp beds of his home. At home he had fish and turtle servants, bringing him food and water, or anything he desired, but now he was all alone, wet and cold in a scratchy sandy burrow. This was all so unfair! Acropora didn’t realize that adventure also meant discomfort. He reminded himself that he couldn’t go back, not now, although he worried that no one would take over his job, and the tides wouldn’t move. He sighed, looking up at the moon. He would have to just figure something out. He arrived at the shore of the Sunbeam Ruins shortly after noon the next day. The Sundial Terrace loomed above him, surrounded by dozens of dragons staring at the runes etched in its side, and jotting down notes. Acropora had never seen so many dragons in his life! Little hatchlings ran about the crumbling stone staircases, and above, dragons soared above the trees. It was hard for Acropora to concentrate on his task as he wandered around the glittering Mirrorlight Promenade, but he knew what he was looking for. “Will anyone help me find the Tidebringer?” By Kittyg145 |
