Biography

BwyScT2.gif Nevada

Nevada, now a strong Coatl, wasn’t always like this. He used to be thin, small, a runt. He didn’t know how to fight or hunt, he did know one thing, though. He was alone, nobody would help him now.

Nevada was lonely growing up, leaving him by himself with nobody to play or talk to, so he compromised. He loved playing and protecting animals, he could never imagine a world without them. He has an inner connection with these animals, unlike most dragons. He even planned his quest with the animals he deemed as friends and family for the most part.

Ever since Nevada was a youngster all he ever wanted to do was embark on a quest to go find the Boulder Nymph. He was convinced this Nymph was meant to be his after seeing it one day when he was playing alone. Once he had grown older, he commenced the mission he had been waiting for his whole life. The adventure of his life was spread ahead of him.

Nevada had battles the elements, terrain and enemies, but he had found the Nymph he had been dreaming of his whole life. When he found the Nymph he was happy, but he had a sense of longing, already missing the adventure and the planning. He already missed the days of journey and doubt. He didn’t wish to return to his home, that would be way too boring now! Now he had an even larger task at his talons. He had to find ways to avoid going home, would any-dragon really care about him anyway?

This male Coatl is in good shape, lithe and agile yet he can bring down three bears at once with his weapons at talon. Nevada comes prepared.

Stars dusted the sky like lost memories above the canyons that night. The wind whispered stories to listening trees, who rattled off their praises with chattering leaves. Creatures in the night sung sorrowful songs that lingered in the back of Nevada’s mind, and though they eased his anxiety, they did little to help his pondering. It had been about two fortnights since he’d completed his mission that had taken a large chunk of his time and energy – find the Boulder Nymph. And he had. The elusive creature was now tucked beneath his wing, slumbering as Nevada should, but sleep evaded his consciousness that evening. For so long, his purpose had been to seek out the Nymph, and what should have been a miraculous moment of success only brought about dismay as he found himself at his journey’s end, and he was left with one, heart wrenching question: what now?

What now, after he’d grown to become the dragon he is now because of such a quest? What now, after years of searching and pushing every resource he could into obtaining what was supposed to be a myth? What now? Nevada thought of this while the sun dipped below the horizon and even more by the time to stars came out to share their secrets. And yet, he still came up with no answer. Nothing seemed to come close to being as interesting as his most recent journey, and going home wasn’t really an option – no, it wasn’t on the table at all. He had no desire to return, since Nevada doubted his existence would be welcomed with warmth. He was fairly certain they probably hadn’t even noticed he was gone.

Nevada had been founded on this journey. It was the foundation of who he was. What else was there to do? It had consumed his waking hours and nights, sent him from forests to canyons to icy hilltops, and even forced him to confront dangers only shadows whispered of. And he came out the better for it. Now the Coatl quite literally had nowhere to go. If he wasn’t home and not searching for the nymph, what was he doing?

A tad bit of frustration was clear across his scowling face, and with a hard slap of his tail, he jostled the Boulder Nymph awake enough to shoot the Coatl a glare before curling back up into an even tighter ball. Nevada shot the Nymph a sympathetic smile, but it was missed by its closed eyes. He still got a rush every time he stared at the Nymph, but it was fleeting, and within moments, he was back to his pondering and fussing and he was growing tired of it. Eventually, Nevada realized sleep wasn’t going to take him anytime soon and so, without disturbing the Nymph beside him, rose and decided to take a little stroll.

The canyons were stretched out before him, opening up and revealing their dark crevices that would only contain things of nightmares, but behind them was a forest that thickened with every step. It was where he found the Nymph in the first place, and it was where his feet took him that night. The trees greeted him with waves of their limbs while animals peered at him from the darkness. From the ones he could see, Nevada flashed them a kind smile, earning small chirrups and wiggles of excitement in response, though none of them seemed to want to come out and play. Understandable, considering the hour, so Nevada left them to the comfort of their nests as to not disturb them for too much longer.

Nevada’s mind was a blank slate with few thoughts drifting over it. Again, what was there to think about? He had not an inkling of what to do now that his quest had come to an abrupt end he hadn’t been prepared for, and so he was left without a purpose. Nevada tucked his wings tightly against him to prevent the chilly wind from bothering him too much, and so he could maneuver around the trees without too much of a fuss. All in all, he wasn’t really paying attention to where he was going.

To say that he’d battled and conquered everything that came his way, only to be defiled by a blasted rock jutting a bit too hard from the ground was embarrassing, and Nevada was glad that no one (besides the animals) were around to see his graceless collapsed onto the ground. He slid, having attempted to scramble for purchase, but his claws had forgotten how to function long enough for him to practically be eating dirt. With a frustrated snort, Nevada raised his head and gave it a hard shake to clear off the dirt that now clung to his scales and feathers. Gross.

But, in a way, it was good he’d fallen.

Nevada had been lost so far in the catacombs of his mind that he hadn’t noticed the fireflies come out to play. They danced and jittered, lighting up the night like traveling stars that were tired of living so far away from the planet. They twinkled in and out of existence, dancing to a beat the Coatl suddenly wished he could hear and inhaled sharply at the sight. A wave of serendipity seemed to rise around him as Nevada was lost to the beauty of the things around him. It was what he adored about nature – they danced to their own rhythm despite disruption of dragons around their home. They didn’t sneer at any lingering eyes or shut down their ceremony when they were disturbed. Or at least, most of the time they didn’t. Some kept their secrets, but many, like the fireflies, cared little for those around them.

For now, Nevada’s mind was at peace. Why should he worry so much about what came next? Sure, his entire purpose had been finding he Boulder Nymph for so long that, without it, there was little to urge him onward. But it was too early to start thinking about his next adventure. He’d only just completed his first and there was so much to see and do, and so many creatures he had yet to meet. Nevada should be celebrating his success before moving forward. Yes, it really didn’t give him complete peace of mind from the growing ball of anxiety in his chest. But it was enough to sedate his mind and force him to tear his gaze from the fireflies and return to the little campsite where his Nymph was still sleeping. No, he was impatient for what came next, but he knew that he’d find his new purpose soon enough. He just had to wait.
