Imperial Wendigo Lore

An ancient myth, a scary story to keep hatchlings close to home in the darkest hours of the night. An Emperor contained in a single dark body. A bottomless hunger that haunts the shell of an Imperial. Drifters of the night and devourer of kin they are said to be.

Legend says they are formed when Imperials stay too close together in the snow filled lands. No food in sight, they turn on their own if only for the sake of survival. The last one standing, having reigned victorious over its brethren is cursed to a feral life filled with cold despair and unending hunger. Instead of the mass of bodies forming the grotesque body of an Emperor, the horror is formed not in the flesh but in the mind of the sole survivor.

Unlike common Imperials they do not shed their antlers, instead they grow in twisted formations and patterns. They sprout in new directions and continue to grow for the rest of the wendigo’s life. Their bodies are eternally chilled; their breathe frost instead of steam. Their voices are like the shattering of deep ice under the surface of a frozen lake, and like the movement of a glacier as it marches across the lands.

It is said that they can breed viable children, whether or not the hatchlings follow suit with their wendigo nature is currently unknown. As wendigo are solidary monsters, their behaviours apart from their intense hunger and viciousness are unknown.

To kill a wendigo, one must impale them with silver or expose the monster to extreme levels of heat. Fire dragons are usually hired to hunt down and dispose of a wendigo when discovered.

A myth surrounds the wendigo though, it is said if one fears a wendigo has drawn too close to their home you should lay out cabbages in a clearing or valley outside the borderline of the territory one is concerned about. This is said to draw them in and fend off their hunger, if only for a little bit longer.
