the plague ambassador & mortician | brutal • menacing • vulgar
Quote:
honey I'm home - dex

An outspoken and generally unpleasant creature, Kiliac seems like the last kind of dragon one would find in such a peaceable place as Thunder Hollow. Indeed, her inclusion in the clan is nearly outdated, given that she was welcomed in the clan's early days before a lot of the safety measures and oaths used to safeguard the clan existed. Fortunately for the general clanmember, she keeps mostly to herself in a cave well away from the rest of the settled portions of the territory.

Despite being rude to many of the clan's residents, Kiliac behaves quite tolerably to members of her own flight. Well-versed in Plague's many unique traditions, she finds enough comfort in the Wasteland to reign in her cutting tongue. It is for this reason primarily that she is still trusted to maintain contact with Thunder Hollow's scattered Plague allies.

She has a strange fascination with death for someone so absorbed in a culture of survival. In the presence of a dead body, she becomes intensely focused and borderline scientific, refraining from trademark cruel comments for the sake of the opportunity to study the nature of death. Thunder Hollow rarely sees deaths whose causes cannot be discerned, but in the one-off circumstances where such instances arise, Kiliac can generally be trusted to handle the matter. The mortician title is one she holds loosely, but she is professional enough with it that she is unlikely to be replaced.

Few know the nature of her Charge, as she does not share anything readily, much less such personal facts. Even those who do know rarely understand the breadth of it. Her Charge is the entire concept of death, particularly the nature of death as a balance to life. She despises how death does not hold as much sway in the modern era as it did in times past, and she seeks to protect her Charge by restoring a one-to-one balance. Her ideal world is one where every birth is offset by a death, and she works tirelessly in secret to push for that perfect ratio. The violence she has orchestrated would be grounds enough to see her banished from Thunder Hollow entirely; perhaps, she would even be executed. Insofar, she has been clever and covert enough to avoid such a fate.

In a recent turn of events, Kiliac lost use of her wings for a time after the membranes were seared by acid during one of her frequent trips to the Wasteland. By the time she returned to the clan, she had repaired their tattered edges by patching them up with waxed cloth; she remains close-lipped about how she injured herself in the first place. Her prosthetics have allowed her to fly again without too much difficulty, though her sensitivity to air currents has suffered for the loss.

i. history
Born to a necromancer and his recently-resurrected companion, Kiliac grew up surrounded by death of all sorts. As she came to realize her Charge and the convictions it laid upon her, she grew disgusted with the unnatural science her father was working and fled from home into the Wasteland. She quickly grew to appreciate the stubborn, hardy lifestyle of Plague and invested herself wherever she could in its culture. She wandered from clan to clan, scrapping over territory and leaving behind enough dead dragons to contribute to her ideal balance.

As her notoriety and influence grew, so did her desire to fulfill her Charge. She began to look outside the Wasteland's borders for connections that would be willing to wreak havoc in the name of setting the world right. The Lightning Flight in particular drew her eye, since its culture paralleled Plague's own in an arguably more hostile way. Some money or food could buy the loyalty of a raider band for weeks, and in that brief period of loyalty she could indirectly end the lives of dragons who might go on to reach the stasis of Exaltation.

In her search, she encountered Thunder Hollow in its fledgeling stage. Lacking in numbers but surrounded by danger on all sides, it seemed the perfect place to set down roots and play the long game while supervising her desert enterprises. As the clan's culture developed further into one of peace and sanctuary, Kiliac became increasingly appreciative of the smokescreen it could provide for her activities. In exchange for the occasional visit to her beloved homeland, she enjoyed security and secrecy. Additionally, the volatility of the territory gave her plenty of opportunity to cause strife on a local scale. As ironic as it seems, Thunder Hollow became a haven for Kiliac, too.
