Alshain is a curious and somewhat naive young dragon, apple of his parents eyes and also fiercely protected. Alnair doesn't want his son to have to go through anything like he did growing up, which has at times unfortunately resulted in Alshain being shielded from some harsher aspects of life, not getting an opportunity to learn how to deal with different obstacles he will have to face when he grows up and leaves home.

Schedar only knows how she herself was brought up and how crushing those expectations were for her so she doesn't want to put any on her son. But having no expectations isn't good either. It's Kiririn, his mother's old lady-in-waiting and now friend, who he considers an aunt, that is there to create some balance to his upbriging. And Alshain has a good head on his shoulders so everyone expects his future to be bright, even if he doesn't yet quite know what it is that he wants to do.
