BIO. According to some, the Shatterskull Circus is a lawless place. That may be rather unfair on a general level, but there a few tents in which it applies. The daredevil's tent, for one, is full of stunts that should do no less than kill the performers, but the only death has been that of the laws of physics. The carnival game alley is another, since you could sell your firstborn child and never win the ring toss or the balloon pop. The carnies there are crooked creatures, and the prizes a distant dream. But perhaps the most lawless place of all is the fortuneteller's tent, though it's impossible to know it until it's too late. The canvas is the color of vintage wine, edged with shimmering gold around its circumference and at its peak. The tent flaps are similarly gilded, tied shut with a golden, sparkling rope when the proprietor is away, and left hanging ominously loose when he is in. The heady scent of incense drifts out from the entrance, and sometimes, swirls of blue smoke escape, crackling as if filled with static before they fall to the ground and disperse. Inside the tent, the world is darker, and its proprietor darker still. He sits on a throne of plush pillows in the same wine and gold colors as his tent. A crystal ball lies before him, or sometimes in the coils of his tail, and if you ask, he will say it is the pearl of a friend, willingly given. It is hard to say whether or not such a story should be believed. The fortuneteller's name is Rakarok, as customers soon learn, and he always promises to read for one's deepest desires. It is, he says, his most wondrous talent, and his readings come at a fair, if unusual price. He accepts memories as payment, even bad ones, or wishes, even little ones. He is happy to accept the things that will not be missed until they are. Surely that is fair? But the things he may show are not always kind. Deepest desires are not always right. The tent will spin, the world will narrow, and the bones that litter the floor and form the tent frame bend and shift and glow under the phenomenal power exerted in such a small space. The universe whirls at dizzying speeds, and hearts fly wide open, laid bare to Rakarok and the eyes that have come to life on his forehead and between his horns. In this space, in exchange for something so small, so unimportant, he sees everything. No one pays for a second reading from the fortuneteller. They leave his tent and never return, but Rakarok has his hooks in them for the rest of their lives. When they think of him, they forget what they paid him, forget what he told them. When they think of him, they remember his extra eyes, and they remember the lawless bones. Bio by Tues. theme song chosen by Triometra RELATIONS. LINK: story LINK: story LINK: story GALLERY.
