The guards never lasted long. Rumor had it the nursery was cursed. After all, what other reason would the most trustworthy of guards have to leave the nursery unattended, never to return?

There were always eggs broken or missing. Those left behind looked as though they had been eaten, probably by animals.

As he watched, a thought wormed its way into his mind. He tried to move his mind away, but it persisted, forming a sort of discordant harmony of voices, singing different melodies.

Slowly, he moved toward the eggs.

A crunch. A sticky liquid. A feeling of delight, then emptiness.

Lemm awoke, covered in sticky liquid, the taste of meat on his tongue. Panic rose in his chest, and he almost threw up in horror and disgust. He was surrounded by the remnants of broken eggs. He rose and ran from the scene, as far as his wings could possibly take him.
