Cooper always looked up to his father. As a dragon serving directly under the illustrious Lady Wynn, protector of Clan Kaishal, Hawthorne was a dragon who commanded respect from all, as well as blind adoration from his son. Due to Cooper's nonexistent magical talents, his mother had very little presence in his life before she was banished, so Cooper would spend most days in the training arena developing his fighting form.

Unfortunately, it soon became apparent that he had not inherited his father's sheer strength in battle, either. As he grew older, his father had less and less time for him, focusing on the security of the clan by personally training other, more promising recruits. In his misguided shame in himself, Cooper spent all his energy living on the fringes of the clan, seeing much but remaining unseen himself.

This was when his true talents were revealed. Cooper discovered he was quite adept at tracking...anything, really, and even used his skills to prevent a beastclan ambush by warning the clan just in time. The sour taste left in his mouth whenever he saw the brave warriors in battle, however, only reminded him of his perceived failures, and he decided to set out in search of his place in the world.
