When the sea came to get the city, a loud rumbling was the only warning before the streets were flooded and buildings ripped away by strong currents. Screams filled the air, the formerly singing and dancing dragons desperate to get away from the uncaring tides, freezing water immobilizing limbs and hindering the fliers. In the end it took only a few moments to see the whole city sink into the sea and the survivors were left staring at the place were once a city had stood.

Carcosa's first memories were of uncaring yellow eyes staring at him in the darkness of the trench. Giant bodies were floating through around him, behemoths of old with grotesque maws and bioluminescent bodies. They did not care for him, their eyes lazily tracking him when he pushed through the water, like he was not really there. For a time, he let himself be carried away, something whispering in his mind that he had no reason to hurry anywhere. Time ceased for him. And so he stayed there, drifting and listening to the hauntingly beautiful melodies from the leviathan's of the deep.
Until the sea churned and ripped apart.

The changing currents carried him to ruins at the bottom of the Trench and it seemed like the lost city had been frozen in time, the buildings while ruined still standing even under the immense pressure. And there was something calling Carcosa to it. For the first time in centuries, his mind lost it's disconnected feeling and the whispers changing, beckoning him now. And he knew, he knew that this was his, his city, his winding streets and crumbled buildings. He remembered festivals and dancing, laughter and music. And he remembered the yellow king coming to take what he deemed his. Carcosa had refused, a free and proud city that would not be tamed. But what could not be tamed, the yellow king decided, that could not be allowed to stay. So the sea had come, creatures of old rising up to devour them. Carcosa had risen up, manifested, and dragged the creatures back into the depth of the Trench, so that its inhabitants may live.
They say that you can still hear the music and the voices from the festival that the city was so famous for when its time came. Dragons swear that they could hear voices tinkling in their ears, telling them to come to their city to dance and celebrate. Sometimes the whispering voices never left and the dragon followed them, wading into the cold sea until there was nothing left of them to see. None of these poor creatures ever returned.

What happened to them? Now, that is a question none has been able to answer. Most dragons say that they drown, the voices sirens singing their deadly songs to lure unsuspecting travelers into their death. Others say that the ghosts of the drowned inhabitants of the city are desperate to feel like living again, robbing others of their breath only to feel it for a moment themselves. And some swear that the Tidelord's prophecies have been so much corrupted, that they're trying to be heard by anyone who dares to listen too closely to the breaking waves.

Some are nearer to the truth then they may believe, it is the lost city calling dragons to it but it does not want to steal life. The most important thing for a city is the population of it, a city can not survive if there is none to walk its streets. And so Carcosa strings his melodies together, mournful for the death, cheerful for the lingering and beckoning for anyone ready to listen to the story that he has to tell.

The streets of lost Carcosa are not as empty as they used to be.
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.
