Biography

J6glAsH.gif Rhodolite

Rhodolite had left his hatchclan young and started practicing his cons on the unsuspecting dragons in large crowds. He tended to prefer a small area that most didn't use, as the other merchants set up large stalls with a wide variety of trinkets that were far more intricate than what he had. He sold many different trinkets that he claimed were Holy Arcane items. Of course, him having little training in the Arcane arts meant that these items were useless in all reality. However, they were finely made and convincing to those who were untrained in recognizing false magic charms or unused to the baubles that were often made as trinkets by dragons of the Arcane flight.

Although Rhodolite himself hailed from the Starfall Isles, he did not make or know anyone who made magic or holy trinkets. Legitimate Holy items were typically made in temples by the priests and priestesses who lived and worked there while magic trinkets were typically made by the more traditional minded magic users in a clan. Luckily for Rhodolite, these items held little difference to most in outside territories who had not studied the Starfall Isles or were at least less observant when it came to noticing small details.

Rhodolite was often looked at with suspicion, as it was well known that some dragons from all flights sold counterfeit holy items. Those who had fallen for the tricks of those con artists often told others and made them aware of the tricks used to make the trinkets seem more appealing. Rhodolite was less successful than he would have liked to begin with. He knew it would be difficult as the items he chose to sell were so much more than a simple good luck charm making dragons considerably more cautious in purchasing the Holy Trinkets.

He planned a way to make himself seem a bit more genuine in his credentials as a seller of Holy trinkets. As a drake who would have access to the holy items he sold and the authority to sell them to other dragons, he was sure he’d be able to rope more customers in. Seeing as how the holy items were the only things he seemed to have difficulty selling, he thought a change in his appearance would help with the issues he had been having.

Rhodolite often wandered back to the Starfall Isles to restock his store, as well as get a few materials he could hastily craft and sell as claw-made charms. The materials he would buy or find for his custom charms were things that only could have come from the Starfall Isle; he did like his store to have a bit of legitamacy to it!

On this shopping trip however, he had other things in mind aside from his regular purchases. While he was in the Isles that he hoped the more devout natures of the scholars who lived ther would help him sell more of his trinkets more regularly, although he knew they’d also be scrutinized more carefully.

Rhodolite wandered near a temple, wondering if they would sell an old robe to him. If that failed, he supposed he would have to find a less… legitimate way to get the robe he thought would help his trinkets seem more believable as holy items. He knew the back alleys of the marketplace, and could even brag about his connections to some dergs most would consider shady. This consideration, albeit harsh, was not unjustified, as he has unfortunately gotten on the wrong side of some of these dubious dealer, to an unfortunate result.

Much to his disappointment, the the robe-clad Fae he spoke to would not sell him one of their old robes, even a modified one which could not be mistaken for a Priest’s. After all, he could have just altered it to look like a traditional Priest’s garb after the fact, and the Fae wouldn’t know a thing! It really would have been a splendid deal.
Unfortunately, it is not in a priest’s day to make deals.

He left the temple feeling disappointed and searching for a different way to get the robes he needed, without having to resort to his tried and true method of “ask the local shady Mirror and hope not to get shanked.” He supposed he could make robes with a similar look, but for that, he would need to find the proper materials. He set off to the marketplace, in hopes of either finding some scrap starry material reminiscent of Arcane priest’s robe or selling some of the remaining trinkets he had on claw.

Rhodolite met a young snapper dragoness as he was attempting to peddle his merchandise, the irritation rolling off her in waves, and robes denoting a lower rank she was clad in made him think he could sell her some of his trinkets before leaving the area. He’d learnt that 9 times out of 10, irritated dragons tended to just toss treasure his way in hopes of chasing him off without paying too much attention to what they bought. He chose to try to sell her some of his useless trinkets, smiling and talking as fast as possible in hopes of confusing her. In the end, she looked at him as if he'd lost his mind and called his bluff; instead of calling the city guard however, she offered to help him with his cons. The air of irritation she had emitted previous had switched to one of rebellion.

Rhodolite accepted her offer, albeit skeptically, and after a day or so to give Nimbus a chance to obtain a set of robes for him, the two began traveling together. Sporting the robes, and a having a former priestess of the Arcanist traveling with him and vouching for his holy trinkets made him far more successful. He quickly became friends with Nimbus as they traveled, and between the two of them they became some of the best con artists to roam Sornieth.

@Glacierstar

You chose: Cave Gecko
You get: 3 headcanons about what your dragon collects, hordes, studies, or does for a living
  1. Rhodolite, strangely enough, doesn’t keep many items in his possession for too long - more often than not, anything that he gains (aside from treasure, of course) is recycled back into his wares for sale. He does, however, have a small collection of tiny crystal pendants. They aren’t worth much, but the crystals are cunningly carved and they’re small enough for a Fae to wear, so he usually has one clasped around his neck at all times.
  2. He’s a bit of a quick study, picking up on other’s quirks and mannerisms in short notice. To that end, he’s eerily good at mimicking the voices of others - part of his entire persona as a pushy shopkeeper is being able to capitalize on hesitation and curiosity, so he likes to watch other shopkeepers in the market so he can use their tactics to the best effect.
  3. He doesn’t have much interest in magical objects, but he does have a few small books on various kinds of crafting and metalwork. He picked them up one day with the thought of trying out some of the skills and selling them if he gets discouraged, and, well - he still has them, but he hasn’t gotten very far.
