Eldorado The irony was lost on the average soul, as the queen looked out upon her subjects. Many so desperately wished to live the life of royalty and take joy in the comforts it afforded. What they would never come to realize was that Eldorado would be more than willing to accept such a trade. For all it’s filigree and niceties, the life of a monarch was steeped in heavy obligation that grew more inescapable by the second. She relished the opportunity to break such chains whenever she could find the time, often disappearing away from prying eyes and petty politics into the wilds that made her feel so at home. Eldorado found that it was both the blossoms and the leaves that excited her the most. Watching them fly from their mother plant and dance directionless in the wind set a fire in her heart, urging her to follow them to undiscovered places. She listened, leaping to the sky and following the fastest petals to the edge of her territory. Though disappointed to stop there, for a time, this was enough for her. It was difficult to convey how something as simple as pushing through the underbrush into an untouched clearing, or flying high above the cliffs not even the boldest of the beastclans dared to traverse could elate her more than the idea of an entire kingdom under her command. She simply knew that they did. Her advisors were less than helpful in reassembling her scattered priorities, joking that she should have been born to the Windsinger before moving on to the next insignificant squabble. With very little to bring her back to her kingdom, she began to travel farther away. Her ‘necessary adventures’, as they would come to be called, began to grow in length, from an hour to two to several and eventually entire nights spent away from her obligations. The wrath of her advisors and the worry of her people did little to quell her need to explore the world further beyond that which she had already seen. She made her decision by moonlight on a night when the thought of waking up tomorrow as a queen was simply too much to bear. Eldorado would be a queen no longer, then. Though all she left behind for her people was a simple note, contained within was the greatest gift she could think to give; an example of what true freedom could bring. None should live their lives chained to a burden they did not wish to bear, and if they looked upon their lives and found themselves wishing for change, then they ought to have the power to go on and change it! To be brave in these moments of change was her final command to those who had once called her their queen. As a warm breeze swept through her lands, stirring the blossoms she had chased only to the edge of the kingdom for so long, Eldorado took to the sky on wings that had never felt lighter. The former queen had waited a long time for this, making her first taste of true freedom all the sweeter. Adventure awaits the brave and the foolish alike, and it mattered little to her which she was in this liberating moment. By AlmightyAmu |
