Biography
Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. -Robert Frost |
ASTER NIGHT WATCHER | Adventurer ▲ Loner ▲ Realist PLEASE RETURN TO FEINICS #391800 THIS IS A PERMA White, billowing flurries of snow filled the sky in a thick blanket as a icy spiral flew further than he'd ever flown before. Gargantuan chunks of solid ice fell in heaps from the mountops of the Southern Icefield, falling into the deep blue ocean below and churning it into rough waves that broke the topmost frozen layer into dozens of floating islands. These icy ports bobbed and heaved in the wake of the ocean as Aster navigated the harsh floor of his home, twisting around each obstacle as though they were nothing more to him than another challenge in some personal gain. The further he flew the warmer the air became, but it was hardly clear skies and sailing. No sooner was the ocean clear below him before the air grew so hot it was suffocating and the water hissed where ice met fire. A blast of acrid air hit him, sending burning tingles through his scales and he paused, unsure if his thirst for knowledge was enough to risk the dangers involved with venturing onward, especially somewhere so unusually warm.... Aster had turned back, surrendering himself back to the blizzard skies and frequent flurries, but there was a sound that followed him, another dragon who had managed somehow to stay hidden until he'd made his retreat. It was here that he met her, somewhere above the ocean where the icy waters of the Southern Icefield met the molten shores of the Ashfall Wastes, the young spiral who would come to be both his greatest advisory and truest mate. Aster always knew he was different than other spiral dragons. For one, he didn't speak a thousand words a minute and he wasn't all smiles and sparkles. He had his moments, but whoever said intelligent dragons couldn't also be funny clearly had never met a dragon like him. His wit was unmatched in his nest mates and while his gift for gab could have qualified him to make a mighty fine ambassador for any clan in Sorenith, he had bigger plans. Staying in one clan without adjusting to their way of life, their culture and morals, why it seemed impractical. He wouldn't lose who he was, his icy exterior and ability to chill a dragon with one glance nor his ability to find logic and reason even in the irrational, but what was the point of venturing further than the icefields if not to learn, to adapt, and to test one's self? So Aster did just that, migrating from clan to clan as he explored and finally daring to leave the icefields, only to stumble upon another spiral who would change the whole trajectory of his life. That's what love was, he supposed, something that makes a dragon willing to change his own plans for a future, move to the second hottest land in Soreinth, and find compromise with an unyielding optimist who saw the good in everyone, especially those that don't deserve a minute of her time. Aster loves Freya for this, her heart and unflinching optimism in the face of great struggle. It was all too easy to follow her lead back to find her pearlcatcher friend and journey on an adventure that had no destination- all to stay by her side. How they landed in the Shifting Expanse he couldn't be sure. The fire dragons liked the heat of the scrub and though it wasn't ideal for Aster he could tolerate it far better than the brief time he'd spent in their home. The clan of misfits accepted them and seemed to appreciate his suggestion of having himself and his new mate keep watch for invaders and pillagers and the like. So they settled in fine enough and though he'd likely never admit it seriously, Aster knows the where doesn't matter nearly as much as the who. Freya is every bit his opposite and more and if he had to choose all over again he'd follow to the end. |
