Vanek
a second-generation Glass Walker



For most of the ships of Sornieth entering Clan Guardianite, the dragon they will meet at the Lock Keeper's Post will be Vanek.

Although quite colourless in both personality and appearance, Vanek is a dragon of little emotion who is absolutely devoted to keeping the Seoladair Staircase to the Shifting Expanse protected and greeting the sailors of all ages and experiences. He provides easier access up the stairs by using channeled Water magic to raise the water from the Sea and Lightning magic nearby to remotely open and shut the locks without doing so manually - making what could take hours of waiting merely a short while.

Handling multiple elements at the same time can take its toll, which takes the blame as to why Vanek feels the need to stay as void as possible. Even so, he and the solitary diver Batholith share a quiet, yet rather pleasant distant relationship. He does not feel empathy towards other beings, though he is far from what one would call evil.

Golems made entirely out of glass. What good things can that bring? They must be extremely easy to break.

That assumption would be wrong. Thanks to the fact that the glass has magic constantly flowing through it, it's become unbelievably sturdy, matching the durability of steel.

Glass Walkers function purely on the environment's magic. They don't need any food or water, but probably would cease functioning rather quickly, should the environment be deprived of magic. Thankfully, Sornieth's atmosphere is so chock-full of magic, this isn't something that could threaten them by accident.

While Glass Walkers don't have their own magic (apart a tiny amount that settles in their eyes when they're created), they're incredibly adept at channeling magic around them. Are you in a lab full of equipment running on lightning magic? You might very well get zapped. Thanks to Sornieth's nature, this means that they have practically unlimited access to power they can tap onto, if they know how to handle it.

They also have the ability to break their wings into their segments and control each of the shards separately, which can get used both as a breathtaking display of beauty and a deadly collection of weapons.
