Hemp was too young when he left his original home to remember how he got his name. He thinks his family gave it to him. He remembers his brother was powerful and held a fraction of the clan but that's it. According to Ceve he had somehow made his way onto a merchant ship and traveled across the sea.

He took his name as a guide and soon began producing hemp for rope making. Growing up on an island, the boats coming in always needed supplies, and things tended to break. Hemp's ropes lasted and were known for being strong. Sailors held the secrets of the rope close due to Hemp's asking. He likes keeping busy but he likes the slow work and would hate for too many customers. He's just happy where he's at.
