Zetsu





Zetsu hatched as a lost soul. No one really knows where his egg even came from, let alone how it ended up in the heart of The Abiding Boneyard. When a dragon hatches, every one of them lets out a quiet call. A call only their parents know. When Zetsu pushed the last of the eggshell away, and let out that call. It was only answered with silence. The small helpless hatchling called for as long as he could, before hunger and thirst forced him to move. The Scarred Wasteland is no place for a lone hatchling. Water and food occurring naturally is scarce. Imperials may be the largest dragons, but even the biggest of hatchlings can only go with out food and water for so long. Soon the only thing he could hear, was his stomach snarling for food. He could taste the dry air and dust around him as his head hung lower and lower. After just a few short days, his legs gave out. He collapsed in the middle of no where, starvation and dehydration taking over.

A final desperate cry for help leaves the young Imperials mouth. As laid in the dust and his eyes grew heavier, this time there was a call back. He didn't have the strength to turn and look up at the dragon that lifted him off the dry ground. His eyes closed to the soothing sound of the wingbeats from the dragon holding him close to its chest.

His eyes open to the setting sun light shining through a cave entrance. immediate the smell of the small fish and pile of fruits sitting in front of him hit his nose. He scrambled as quick as he could to the food and scarfed it down. After his breakfast he was entranced by the sound of a small creek flowing just outside of the mouth of the cave. Like a Sirens song, it pulled him to the creaks edge. He drank his fill and returned to the strange cave. He spent the rest of the remaining sunlight searching for the dragon that saved him. Maybe they are on of his parents! Or a sibling? Oh or an Aunt! He didn't know and didn't care. Whoever they were, clearly they care. With no luck of finding in finding the mystery dragon and the world around him growing dark as night falls. He returned to entrance of the cave and wrapped himself in his wings for a nights rest.

Just as he was drifting off to sleep, movement in the back of the dark cave caught his eye. A new pile of fruits sat in front of him again. He sat up startled, no dragon came into the cave. He would have noticed. "Are you still hungry, hatchling?" the voice was quiet and soft. "It is dangerous to be alone, especially something so small. So helpless." Zetsu's eyes were not yet strong enough to see the origins of the voice in the dark. "I can help you, if you let me. Just speak my name, and I will make sure you are protected." After some thought, Zetsu nodded. This must be the dragon that helped him after all. What could it hurt? The shadow in the dark drifted close, and softly whispered a name in the dragons ear. "Speak my name, and I will never leave your side." Zetsu had never spoken before. Most dragons take a few days before they learn the names of their families. But something about this name, it felt so natural. "Naberius"

Naberius has guarded Zetsu ever since. Naberius is bounded to Zetsu's soul, and they share a bond like no other. Zetsu is old enough now to fend for himself, Naberius still likes to help. Whispering advice, some good some not so much, or even taking over if needed. All that Zetsu knows is he is no longer alone.
