BEFORE THE MANOR Phantom used to live in the Ashfall Wastes, with parents that were apart of the growing rebellion. On a visit to the Viridian Labyrinth, her life changed forever. A bit of the Shade, the terrifying entity that haunted all of Sornieth, attached itself to her. Slowly replacing her shadow as she stayed there, circling the edges of the camp that her parents had made so very close to The Behemoth. They wanted to speak with people, they wanted to gain sympathy and support for the rebellion, maybe even bring a few new recruits back to their clan. It could've been nice, it could've worked. If only Phantom wasn't convinced to burn down the Behemoth, if only the Shade-speck hadn't replaced her shadow in it's entirety. Maybe things would've gone different, maybe her parents could've brought supplies home. But that is not this world, that is not this story. Though she was a middling, in between a hatchling and a full dragon, she was still put on trial. The Gladekeeper, divine beast that she was, was there. It wasn't every day that someone attempted to burn down the Behemoth after all, it required special, divine in fact, attention. The Shade-speck had attached thoroughly to Phantom, cannibalizing and consuming her shadow to the point that even her eyes had changed. Instead of the typical orange-red like her parents and hatchmates, they were darkened with a single point of glowing purple where the pupil used to be. Completely unrepentant, she had laughed in the Gladekeeper's face. And then she couldn't really stop herself from laughing, even as foliage began to cover her body and a mask of dark wood covered her face. Rather a stunning statement, staring up at the goddess herself and laughing before disappearing into a cloud of leaves and shed scales. AT LA DAME BLANCHE Of course, a Shade Touched Spiral can only wander so far before being found. She had disappeared from the Viridian Labyrinth only to end up in the Scarred Wasteland. Completely alone except for the bit of Shade attached to her, she wandered around for a few months all on her own. Her laughter echoed across the empty plains, and soon it attracted just a little too much attention. Or well, just the best amount of attention. There was a patrol going, not many people but just a few of them that had come from the La Dame Blanche Manor. Recruitment wasn't really a thing for their clan, especially not because they advertised themselves as a haven. People who needed them will find them, or be found by them. They were really just wandering to find a fight or an abandoned clan that they could pick through. Pastel, Brys, and Oster were chatting amongst themselves. Talking about what they might be able to see and what they could perhaps find when they heard the echoing, doubled laughter. At first they thought they had maybe found the still living remains of an Emperor, though Brys called that a stupid idea and that Oster shouldn't even speak that into existence. Brys was right of course, because soon they found Phantom. Already, she looked like she was half Shade. But she was also clearly half dragon, and that was enough of a reason for them to bring her back to the Lady. Phantom was welcomed into the Manor, if only because Ledi could respect the mostly-dragon that had laughed in the Gladekeeper's face, but Phantom had to earn her keep. So she was sent to various venues, along with two imperials, in order to bring back enough loot and supplies to earn her keep. Brys and her eventually sparked up a romance, considering all of the long days and nights they spent together, sharing body heat. Even now, they stay together and raise the guardian that they had hatched from a nature egg. |
