Biography

Asahi walked down the path, enjoying the cool breeze that tempered the warmth of the day. The field rolled gently towards the treeline, and while Asahi truly enjoyed his walks through the various strands of trees found in the Sunbeam Ruins he also knew what he would find below those boughs. His head bowed slightly as he remembered the missive he'd been given by the pale Imperial messenger the Lightweaver had used this time, and the desperate situation that was brewing in this bright domain.

How could a dragon succumb to the darkest arts and seek to destroy the living to keep them as dead puppets? What led someone to that much hate and disgust? He knew it didn't matter in the end, that he was merely there to correct the balance, but still he wondered. It wasn't as if he was immune to the stares, the words of those who didn't know better, after all. Could he fall, too?

Shaking his head to free his thoughts from such pointless searching, Asahi focused himself on the feeling of the breeze, the pure sunlight upon his hide. and the firm pack of the road beneath his feet. He was here for a Purpose, and he was the Word, the Way to fix what had been broken and twisted. Peace seeped in, and he invited it, allowed it to settle as the trees grew ever closer. The Darkness wasn't far away, and he reached for it, drawing it closer. It wouldn't come into the Light, not willingly, but that didn't matter.

Asahi was close enough to the forest to hear the rustling of the leaves, close enough to see the first of the fallen dragons standing guard just outside the treeline. He didn't blink when a darkly coloured Coatl slipped into view, though it did seem a bit soon for the Necromancer to make his appearance. Was he aware that Asahi could release his puppets? This was interesting, but ultimately irrelevant. All of the 11 had given him Their blessing.

"So, finally the mighty 11 have sent their dog to worry at my cloak," the Necromancer spoke, his voice carrying easily across the distance. "Do you think yourself my equal because they have sent you forth, or because you have danced to their whims for too long, I wonder?" The sneer in his voice wasn't yet visible on his face, but Asahi wasn't bothered. He could see the puppets around him starting to withdraw, staying just far enough away, for now. Relative silence fell between them as the distance continued to close until the Necromancer raised his voice to taunt some more. "Have you come to give me a speech about how the light is superior to what I have managed to craft from the shadows? About how I am wrong to make for myself what the 11 have made for themselves? Perhaps you merely wish to acknowledge their jealousy?" The Necromancer laughed harshly before snapping himself back and growling low and dangerous. "But this will not end without a fight!"

Asahi was close now. He could feel the pulsing Dark wrapped around the Coatl; could almost see the threads that connected each of the fallen dragons to the cursed one in the center. Those threads would melt under the Word easily enough, but the weight of their bodies would pose an interesting complication. There were more puppets here than he had expected. "Will you yield?" Asahi asked pleasantly as he finally stopped. He heard the snort from the Necromancer at the question, but merely smiled. He had to offer, after all. "Then hear the Word sent for your ears. Stop." The word rippled through the air like a force, whipping the branches around violently and kicking dust up from the ground to assault the puppets and the Necromancer alike. The puppets staggered backwards, some falling with the lights decorating their hides fading like guttering candles before dark smoke floated away from their empty bodies. The ones that survived the first Word surged forwards, but they could no more than circle him, forming a perimeter. Their power was broken, even if they hadn't been yet.

"Stop? Is that really all you can say?" The Necromancer again cackled, insanity shining through as he grabbed his Cleaver from his hip. "This will be it for you!"

"Falter." The Word shook the ground beneath their feet, casting the Necromancer and the puppets down while Asahi swayed with the tremor. More dark smoke filled the air before dissipating on the breeze. The enraged Necromancer staggered back to his feet to rush forwards, but Asahi merely raised his hand, his eyes flashing with power and his fingertips gleaming as he wrote the silent runes of containment that had been impressed upon his very being by the combined Will of the 11. "Fade."

Time seemed to slow down as a bubble formed around the Necromancer. The dark Coatl recognized the threat a second too late and froze in place once the transparent surface closed over his head as the Word and the runes took hold. The transparent surface quickly turned opaque and then burst, revealing an empty space. The patter of bodies falling to the ground and the weak hiss of magic dissipating told Asahi that the fight was over as he closed his eyes and let the mantle of power fade once more. The Will of the 11 was done here.

Asahi looked up towards the bright sunlight and could just make out the sight of a brightly coloured Spiral that seemed to be heading his way. He didn't sigh, he couldn't, so he merely stepped out of the ring of bodies to await his next mission. His work never ended.
