Herbert scrambled up the bank, pausing at the top to look back on all he was leaving behind. The familiar silty flows of the Driftwood Drag spread out below him, its various dams and habitats bustling with activity. His heart ached and a sad croon slipped from his throat as he looked upon his home one last time. It was time for him to leave; even now he could feel the restless wanderlust that was The Search filling him, but Binder’s fury he didn’t want to go! This was his home, all he’d ever known! A gusty sigh escaped his maw and he cast one last, longing glance behind him before turning back towards the wood’s shadowed depths.

How was one supposed to find their Charge? All his mother had ever told him was that he’d know it when he found it. As if that was any help at all. Honestly, what was that even supposed to mean? He grumbled irritably to himself as he shoved his way through the undergrowth. Who knew, maybe he wouldn’t have to go far at all and his Charge would end up being something close by. Yeah right, he should be so lucky. Most had to travel all over Sornieth, and he thought he’d find his in the same territory? ‘Still,’ he mused to himself. ‘It can’t hurt to try, right?’ It was with that cautiously optimistic thought that he started his journey.
