When the world falls into pieces

Ika first noticed the love of her life in the observatory.

She'd been tidying the library adjacent to the massive telescope that night, dusting the many maps covering the walls. There was a shuffling behind her, then the soft thump of a book being placed on a desk. She noticed the smell of the newcomer first; the scent of feathers, fish, leather, the kitchens, and a trace of rosewater. The mixture smelled like friendship to her.

When I can't face all my demons

The visitor opened an old, slightly water damaged book. The cover, though worn, had a burnished emblem of a star with a crown. He spent quite a while leafing through, studying each page carefully.

You are the one I believe in

She watched him intermittently throughout her cleaning, doing extra work so she could watch him work. He did not write in the book, but read steadily and occasionally peered up through the telescope.

Through the thunder and the rain

He stayed even after she left for the night, leaving a key on the hook and a note asking that he lock the door behind him, and where to put the key.

Together we fall together we fly away

She walked the icy halls to her chambers, wondering why she hadn't seen this newcomer before. Yes, she mostly kept to herself and to her library, but most dragons stopped through to purview the extensive cosmological and archaeological records the archives kept. He definitely hadn't smelled familiar, yet he'd smelled like he'd been working in the kitchens all day.
