"WHAT are you DOING!" rang a sudden voice behind her. Busted! Honeypoth had the good grace to look abashed. After all, she'd just been caught red-handed, devouring a bee hive, wax and bugs included. Not just any random beehive, that is, but one clearly part of an apiary. She didn't mean to wreck it! She'd just needed some quick food, and when she spied the grove, full of quiet hives and seemingly unattended in the moonlight, she could not resist.
A great bronzed Guardian towered over her menacingly, and Honeypoth cringed as the voice demanded: "Explain yourself!"
This was all her brother's fault! If he hadn't gone to Shadow, their sister would not have been so keen to join the Windsinger! And Honeypoth wouldn't have been dragged along to the training, and gotten all beat up and left starving while Daypourrith fought on obsessed, without a break, getting stronger and stronger, until finally their trainer said "Enough! You are too young to do any more in a single day!" Daypourrith had huffed indignantly and been about to protest, when she saw her sister's injuries, and realized she'd been in such a frenzy, she hadn't noticed that Honeypoth was really not cut out for fighting. "Why didn't you SAY something!" she'd cried and rushed over, with new agitation. "I'm so sorry to put you through that! I thought we'd go together ... " but clearly that was not to be. So she paced, while Pousseth applied healing salves, before leaving them together. Anguished monologue. "I love you, but I have to go! We can't let the Shadows win!" Honeypoth encouraged her to fulfill the mission she had set herself. The sisters embraced, and Daypourrith departed in the end as she'd planned, but alone. Meanwhile, Honeypoth had not refueled before darkness fell and found herself too hungry even to sleep! She wandered aimlessly, hoping for something edible to fall into her lap, and it did! But it seems she had made a grave error...
It was just too much! She began to sob. And that was all it took to change Caramelloth's attitude; she was a Guardian, after all! Her more basic protective instincts kicked in, and she soon had the young Spiral before her spilling her tale. The gashes on her leg and shoulder supported the story she choked out through her sniffles. And then she did sleep, long and deep.
Honeypoth woke late the next morning, to the soothing hum of hundreds of bees criss-crossing the air. She startled to find a big fuzzy bumble at her elbow. "Don't be alarmed!" called a now familiar voice, "That's just Lightyear! He answers to me; I left him to keep an eye on you while you rested, and he let me know you were awake. I hope you're feeling better. There's a lot to do, and we need to get started!" It took Honeypoth a minute to remember she'd agreed to help Caramelloth with the bees. And so she began her apprenticeship.
