"It is in your code, is it not?" Euria's voice played with Lucifer's thorny aura like a Capricat shoved around a ball of yarn. The silver-coated Unit snarled, a growl permeating from his throat, as if from a speaker. Particles of Plague magic puffed out from the corners of his mouth, as the holes in the front of his artificial eyes contracted.

Lucifer shifted his lifeless gaze to the copper-hided dragon. It cowered like a hatchling, injured and afraid, under the pale Unit that towered atop its serrated figure. Blood trickled down from the small wound on the corner of Volt's brow. Her widened, magic-imbued stare told everything he needed to know about the state of her mind. Euria moved her front leg. She placed it closer to the Ridgeback's neck, as she corrected her posture to drive a point of intimidation across.
"Flesh-born stay unharmed, remember?" The augmentations behind Euria's eyes reacted to her speech, lighting up in its rhythm. They followed her electric voice like mice trailed a piper. Lucifer's vermilion eyes met her colorless gaze.
"Thin ice, Unit Eria," he seethed, mechanical grinding and whirring framing his voice like a lead weight.
"It is Euria to you, Unit Cifer," Euria scoffed back. "Mind the cracks." Her head tilted slightly. She ground her teeth together, imitating the sound of a crackling sheet of ice. With revealed teeth, Lucifer turned away. He joined the two other Units - Asuate and Anoushka - and clearly gave out commands, even though nothing could be heard. They started their tread in a strict formation.

Euria watched the three machines' receding backsides. She moved away from Volt, and turned to the opposite direction.
"Is that it?" The Ridgeback's sudden outcry made the artificial Sandsurge halt. "You're just going to use me as a meat shield from now on?"

Euria lifted her head, straightening herself.
"It might be me who they hunt," she mused, "but now that they have seen you, your safety is not guaranteed."
"But you said it's in their code, right?" Volt trotted to the simulated dragon, but stayed behind her. "No hurting living things." Euria shook her head, and Volt could hear a short smile from her.
"Code can always be tampered with."

For a moment, the dragonmade Sandsurge stood still. She could hear the Ridgeback shuffle in place behind her. Euria lifted one of her mechanical front legs. Time wasn't for wasting.

"So Euria, huh?" Volt asked, almost timidly. She watched as the pale machine halted once more. Euria turned her head, so she could see the Ridgeback from the corner of her eye - but the Sandsurge stayed silent. Volt flicked away a pebble at her feet with her claw. Her eyes traversed over the soil beneath her feet, nigh embarrassed.

"That's a nice name."
