Electricity crackled and arced through the storm clouds gathering and swirling just above The Lightning Farm. Kahna watched on, her wings vibrating with the energy in the air. She flicked her tail and the collection bauble at the tip began to spin concurrent with the swirl of the ever-darkening clouds.

Kahna raised her eyes skyward. Thunder clapped in the distance, off in the direction of The Observatory in the Arcane lands. She sighed. She might be a Lightning Collector, but she was also a traveller, charged with gathering and surrendering foreign lightning samples to the Tempest Spire. She smelled the air, tasted the static that clung there and hummed. Arcane lightning was indeed powerful.

Kahna flexed her wings, stood on her hind legs, and her armor came to life. Thin whips of white hot lightning danced across her armor and raced up and down her spine. Colors danced across her neck and chest, and she beat her wings and roared. Her eyes began to glow a bright, brilliant cyan and electricity continually arced up and down her wings.

A single beat of Kahna's newly energized wings launched her skyward. She circled for a moment before streaking off to The Observatory to the Northwest. Thunder drew closer, quickly. A several hour flight had been cut down to mere minutes with Kahna's channelling the power of lightning.

Kahna slowed up a bit once The Observatory's telescope came into view. She tucked her wings in and began to spin her body. Blue lighting spun away from her body and began to weave a lion out of pure energy. Kahna broke out of her spin and briefly greeted Rai, her Crackling Leo companion. They'd drained many a lightning storm over the ages.

Arcane lightning storm were tough, though, and for these storms, she was eternally grateful for Rai. Kahna circled the outer reaches of the storm. This one was exceptional. Violent as she'd never before seen. She nodded to Rai and they separated, Rai heading to be on the opposite side of the raging storm.

Bright pink lightning shone in Kahna's luminous eyes. She tossed her head back and let out a deafening roar, easily silencing the earth shaking thunderclaps issuing from within the storm.
She growled and darted into the swirling black clouds. Heavy rain pelted her, stinging and sharp, even through her cloak.

Lightning struck the metal plates on her wings and coursed over her body, collecting in the small bulb at the tip of her tail. She beat her wings and threw pink sparks through the clouds in a brilliant flash, and she darted forward. She could hear Rei's roars as he collected bolt after bolt of pure energy.

Again, Kahna was struck, but the tanks at her haunches were hit. One exploded and threw her flight pattern off. She growled and her eyes began to glow again. Another roar brewed in her belly. She released it, signaling Rei to retreat. Luckily, the empty tank was hit. Her right leg vibrated with the force of the Arcane lightning trying to break free.

Kahna found Rei outside the storm and rewarded him with a scratch of the chin and ears. Pink lightning danced all through his bright blue mane and swirled in his eyes. Alarm crept through Kahna. His eyes should never show the captured lightning. Panicked, Kahna gripped Rei in her claws and shot back to The Shifting Expanse.

Rei wriggled and complained, Kahna's claws nervously, yet unintentionally, digging into his back. If she wasn't careful, he would dissipate before they arrived and being the lightning rod that she was, Kahna would immediately attract the discharge in full. She flew, fast, beating her wings furiously.

Finally she reached The Tempest Spire. Touching down just below it, she released Rei's stores and then her own. They flew back to The Carrion Canyon and Kahna checked Rei for signs of electrocution. Even Lightning Collectors and their familiars could be electrocuted. It just took a lot more than your average dragon.

Satisfied, Kahna called Rei back to rest. He obliged with a stretch and once again became pure energy, lying dormant in her wings.
Kahna looked out of the entrance to her den. Too much this time. Too close a call. She looked down at her flayed lightning tank. Still smoldering. She nodded and tossed it to the ground outside. It would be a good while before they took on another storm like that.
