Biography

Altair
Deckhand

Did you know, one of the oldest tricks I've ever seen is tapping a dragon on one side and actually greeting them on the other? It's mostly a hatchling's trick but I've seen one or two dragons use it in battle...sort of.

Anyhow, sorry, I've been chatting it up with some of my mates but I wouldn't mind entertaining a new dragon. My name's Altair, and you are?

Altair was a child of Salena, a guardian of the Dream Corridors, and Albedo, a guardian of the Waking World. With her skills, respectively inherited and learned, she followed in her parents' footsteps to become a guardian of the night. As one with such an occupation, she flew out each night to ensure that her clan was safe from invaders who used the darkness of the night as a weapon.

Altair was trained with her nestmates, Deneb and Vega. Each of the three found their own niche in the art of fighting. While Altair could hold her own in a claw and tooth battle if need be, she found that she preferred to stay well away from her target and attack from afar. It was so much more entertaining! However, such a strategy wasn't easy to accomplish for a dragon whose limbs weren't built for throwing objects or bringing something akin to a crossbow's sight to the eye. Trial and error eventually uncovered her talent for accurately braining a target from above. She could drop jars of various substances with deadly precision. She could rain sharp blades above the heads of her quarry and gouge through scale and fur alike. She could confuse the living daylights out of clanmates by plopping grubs onto their backs. All of these airdrops occurred without touching a claw on anyone. Her accurate dropping skills weren't limited to offense and pranks, though. When working with others, she could give them supplies without coming into the firing distance of ranged weapons.

When not on duty and with a bit of free time in her claws, Altair enjoyed interacting with her clanmates, whether it was through a simple conversation or plotting out a prank. Some dragons said that she was a touch difficult to exchange words with, others said that every word was part of a battle of sarcastic wit. Altair herself believed that she chose her words with care. Perhaps that was her way of saying that she meant what she said.

Her life drastically changed during a nightly patrol of her borders when she came across dragons invading her clan's territory. Before she had a chance to return and warn the clan the group captured her and she was shanghaied into working on the
Crowned Thresher, a pirate ship. Her work changed daily and she had to learn new things as she watched the mainland she'd grown up on shrink until it was gone. What kept her from fleeing when they made port was what she'd found out from multiple sailors about the captain's intent on making her and her former clan suffer if she escaped.

With that in mind, Altair remained aboard the ship though she managed to send off a letter from time to time to her former clan to make them aware of her safety. Despite missing them, the nocturne slowly grew fond of one or two of the sailors after having gotten to know them and her battle strategies proved just as useful against clans they pillaged as they had when she was a carrier guard. She didn't kill dragons but she chose particular spices and concoctions that kept them from harming her shipmates.
