Biography

LETH

The Matriarch

Birthplace: Tempest Spire

Diplomatic | Contemplative | Decisive

Black Queen Fallout Streak Pinion Dancer's Bell

Leth is hatched among the howls of a rising storm, and the bellows of the Stormcatcher at the pinnacle of the Tempest Spire. As she grows, she learns the ways of her lightning kin, the way of metal and toil. She learns the working songs, learns to seek progress, learns how to patch cracked scales, torn claws, and bruised wings. She learns, she grows.

But she never feels as alive as when a storm sings across the sky.

So one day, she chases the tempest.
-o-

The storm nearly blows her out to sea, but even for a youngling with yet-untested wings, Leth is a powerful flyer. As the clouds dissipate over the vast ocean, the peaks of the Crystalspine Mountains spike up into the skyline. Tired and curious, she drifts down to the pink-stained earth of the Focal Point.

It is here that she is swept up in the feverish search for knowledge that has seized the Arcane flight, and she spends her days amongst the Arcanist's ilk poring over books and scrolls containing the vast histories of Sornieth. It is here, too that she meets her Ward - a sentient arcane construct with neither name nor draconic origins. It follows her, a companion arcane-fueled comet, whispering softly in a language long lost to the stars.

But even as she fills herself with the wisdom of the ancients and the fulfillment of finding her Ward, she feels an emptiness grow in her chest - an emptiness once filled by the ferocious music of the desert lightning storms and the songs sung to the rhythm of toil. It eases, if only just, when the Fallout Streaks sing their haunting evening song, but eventually the emptiness grows into an ache that Leth knows will not be filled by the sounds of pages turning.

Her wings take her across the ocean to the Icewarden's lands, but she finds an unforgiving landscape filled with inhospitable dragons. The thick, choking smoke of the Ashfall Waste does not agree with her, nor does it agree with her arcane companion. The Tidelord's domain can offer her nothing for the ache in her chest, and even the sight of the Shifting Expanse is enough to tell her that she will find nothing there to ease her. Exhausted and frustrated, but resolute, she allows the wind to carry her from the Tsunami Flats and back into the sky.
-o-

The soft call of wind chimes beckon her forth.
-o-

The song of the wind leads her up the cliffs of the Reedcleft Ascent and down into a stony canyon, where a cluster of wind chimes decorates an arched doorway to a lair. She sits, and she listens.

It is here that the Wildclaw finds her, nearly transfixed by the music of the wind. Though the Wildclaw is gruff and seems irritated to find a stranger on her front porch, there is a deep understanding in her eyes, and Leth knows immediately that she is welcome here.

The older dragon introduces herself as Erendiria, the last remaining occupant of the lair and last of the old clan. She extends an invitation for the young dragon to stay in the Ascent - and it is thus that the Windsong clan is revived from its slumber.
-o-

Leth is a deeply contemplative dragon, and studies the nature of music from across Sornieth. She considers songbirds to be sacred, as they too hear the song of the wind and carry it with them. As such, she protects them vehemently, and forbids her clan from eating them. The local songbirds have taken to roosting in the canyon walls - and in many of the Windsong dragon's dens - because they know they will come to no harm as long as the clan is present.

The leader of the Windsong clan, Leth is a keen and objective dragon whose ironclad will gives her a countenance that speaks of justice and equity. Her leadership, though subtle and unobtrusive, keeps her clan a powerful mediating force in the surrounding lands.
