Hakkon is the venerable leader of the Clan, and has remained unchallenged thus far. Although easily the strongest out of the Clan, it is his vast experience that makes Hakkon so valuable (or perhaps dangerous). Hakkon has crossed the entirety of the Plaguelands many times and has been to most of Sornieth’s territories. He is also one of the oldest Clanmates, surpassed only by Auzira and Charnel. Like most Guardian dragons of the Plaguelands, he hides the nature of his chosen Charge from outsiders and even most of his Clanmates. This is not uncommon among Plagueborn as any perceived weaknesses are usually immediately exploited and stamped out with extreme prejudice.

Debilitating Disease Turned to Strength
True Ironside affects the scales of a dragon by deforming their growth and tensile strength, and then eventually progresses from the surface into the bones and organs leaving cancerous and implacable mineral deposits throughout the body. Most die early on from wholesale organ failure and those that cling to life face a slow death from incremental suffocation and slow hemorrhage. Hakkon, however, appears to have contracted a mutated strain as the disease has remained largely a surface complaint rather than moving into his organs. And rather than forming the more traditional twisted and brittle patches of scales, Hakkon has ceased to grow scales at all and instead has developed large and thick plaques on his skin. Stronger and harder than scales, however, they do come at an obvious price as it renders him rather unwieldy and slow. In addition to the added weight, Ironside does have a rather unpleasant side effect: dead plaque will eventually become brittle if not sloughed off in time and crack leaving deep wounds in Hakkon’s flesh, which allows his golden blood to ooze to the surface which in turn hardens to form new plaques.

A Secret Past
Unknown to most, save for his most trusted, Hakkon was not born to the Plaguelands. A native to the sun-dappled home of the Lightweaver, Hakkon served as a vessel for the Light and was gifted his golden blood for his service. Contrary to its reputation for enlightenment and refined citizens, there are dark things present amongst the ruins.
