Biography
Abel
The Shepherd
The Shepherd
Abel is the second born son of Gadreel and his deceased wife, Eden. He is also the twin of Cain.
He and his twin had a rocky relationship when they were young. Abel was often the target of Cain's pent up anger and jealousy. He never fought back, never got angry, and that only fueled Cain's budding hatred of his brother even more. Though Abel knew something else bothered his brother, caused him to act so cruel and reckless, it took time for him to understand that what Cain needed was someone to discipline him, to take charge and master him. In an odd sort of way, Cain had felt hurt whenever Abel refused to do so. He wanted an equal, or better, and Abel let him down, unknowingly, at every turn. Once he'd figured that out, Abel changed his behavior towards his brother. He became forceful, but only politely so. Never would he stoop so low as he knew his brother could. Over time, as young adults, Cain finally came to respect his brother. His frustrations were eased through a real, friendly relationship between them, as well as the opportunity to let off some steam on hostile, shade-possessed enemies in the wilderness. Abel was more thankful to see Cain truly happy, for once, than he was to finally be free of Cain's negative attention and obsession. Abel has always put others in front of himself, whether they be family members or clan members. As such, it's easy for people to step on his toes, or completely dominate him. It took him a year to be able to stand up to his brother; strangers will more likely than not have their way without him saying an ill word about it. Luckily, not only he but also his father know of this flaw. Gadreel takes speciel precaution to keep Abel away from creatures he thinks might easily mislead or torment his son. Abel is silently grateful. He doesn't enjoy being used, he just doesn't know how to stop. Not without mentally psyching himself up for a good, long while. Sometimes, he doesn't have that sort of time. Due to his gentle demeanor, he has been given the task of Magen Rishon's main shepherd. The animals that graze within the kingdom's vast grasslands never shy away form him, often getting close enough to nibble at his clothes. They even lay down at his feet when he rests with them! He finds them enjoyable to be with, often giving them names. He loves their personalities, and he thanks the gods that the kingdom has two hunters to gather meat for them. He couldn't bear to be a caretaker of a creature that would soon meet its end. Such a thought is too morbid for him. |
