Perhaps it's his scarred hide - his first battle was against a marauding Lightning clan - or the armor that seems to weigh him down, but the first impression most have of Nexus is that of a dragon older than his years. His serious demeanor isn't entirely a front, but he does tend to be reserved around strangers, saving his teasing and humorous remarks for those he knows well. Likewise, he only removes his armor when he feels entirely safe.

He was raised in a large and chaotic clan in the Wandering Contagion, where hatchlings were raised communally - he never knew who his parents were, though he had some guesses, and it didn't particularly bother him. Every clanmate was considered a brother or sister, with roles assigned by the clan matron based on individual strengths. Nexus was large and imposing, so he would be a warrior. Or so he thought. A few days before his trial of adulthood was to begin, the clan's far-ranging scavengers returned with a bounty from across the sea, a trove of foods and other items from the Viridian Labyrinth. Nestled into a bundle of edible leaves was a single dragon egg.

Instinctively drawn to the egg, and sensing that it was near hatching, Nexus stole away with it in the middle of the night, determined to return whatever emerged to its family. Of course, he'd never journeyed outside the Scarred Wasteland before, and had only the vaguest idea of where to go. Evading his clanmates' pursuit, he traveled day and night until he collapsed from exhaustion. That was when the egg hatched. A bright, chirping Spiral, tiny enough at first to sleep coiled around one of his horns. He named her Heartwhisper, and marveled at her big green eyes. By the time the pair encountered Labradorite and Rue on their own journey, he was certain that Heartwhisper was meant to be his charge.

Despite his original pledge to return Heartwhisper safely to her home, both dragons have settled comfortably in Dragonhome now, with families of their own. Nexus found himself growing close with Labradorite along the way, sparring and wrestling and settling into an easy companionship with her. Rue was more difficult, as he had to learn to understand and speak her unique language, and the effort was made more complicated by his star-struck view of the Coatl: she was simply the most beautiful dragon he had ever seen. Over time, though, they grew closer, and it was when she finally made him laugh with a clever pun that they truly formed a bond. Nexus considers himself the protector of their little family now, watching over the entire clan with the satisfaction of one who has truly found his purpose.
