Hot-tempered but quick to see reason, Rue serves as the clan's resident armorsmith. Her natural resistance to fire serves her well, and she has a gift for using arcane energy to craft her pieces - sometimes leaving enough traces of magic behind to strengthen armor or tools beyond what might be expected. When not outfitting hunters or fighters, she busies herself with the clan's day-to-day mending. Her assistant Heartwhisper translates her sign language for others, keeps track of incoming orders, and can occasionally be spotted coiled around Rue's neck like a bright pink scarf.

She and Labradorite first met as hatchlings, both barely big enough to fly. They soon formed a fast friendship, with Labradorite sharing her own meals with the abandoned Coatl, and Rue providing fish she caught in the pools near their home. Rue was never quite comfortable approaching her friend's family, though, and once they were grown the pair decided to find a home just for themselves. The journey to the mainland was long and tiring, and Rue spent much of it resting on Labradorite's back while the much larger Imperial braved stormy winds. Once safely to shore, though, Rue's quick thinking and survival instincts served them well in foraging and finding shelter.

While Labradorite's friendly nature led her to greet Nexus and Heartwhisper as friends immediately, Rue was not so certain. She was jealous of her bond with Labradorite, and suspicious of the growing friendship between her and Nexus. Over time, though, she warmed to the Guardian, eventually even accepting his overtures of courtship once she'd made certain he understood she had no intention of giving up her close relationship with Labradorite. Now, several years on, the trio are an inseparable unit. Rue considers both Labradorite and Nexus not just her mates, but her best friends as well.

It was Rue who most wanted children, though the others agreed readily enough, and she fusses constantly over their two hatchlings - both adopted, both with the same dull plumage that led her own parents to cast her out. It's not unusual to see her chasing down one or the other to apply fresh runes with a stick of charcoal, a ritual which she insists will help prevent disease and ill fortune. Despite her worry, or perhaps because of it, she dotes on Reigon and Lina even more than her partners do, and she's never quite relaxed until she's curled up around them with Nexus and Labradorite on either side.
