Radine is a happy-go-lucky, spontaneous, and whimsical ridgeback with a dark past that doesn't affect his attitude or approach to life in the slightest. He has a strange habit of eating gems and rocks he encounters while digging that he finds 'tasty'. Nobody has been able to define what that means, but he never gets sick from eating said rocks, so it must be okay. Shortly after arriving at Gypsum, it was realized just how in-tune with the earth this dragon was - perhaps because he ingested it so often? - and he was named earth representative. He doesn't seem to take this political position very seriously. Born in a prison so large it was considered a clan of it’s own, this ridgeback was thrust into the world along with two sisters and a thirst for survival. His mother had been incarcerated for life due to the theivery of Pearlctcher Pearls, and the fact she was brooding was either overlooked or largely ignored by her persecutors, leaving her to rear her modest clutch in a cesspit of violence and cruelty. They would live out their entire lives condemned for their mother’s deeds. Radine’s body is carved with stories - tales of violence and abuse clawed and stabbed into his flesh. His entire youth and adolescence was spent in fear and intensity, with his mother teaching the three children how to defend themselves and survive in a twisted society with no laws and no escape. It broke his body, many times - but it never broke his spirit. Radine escaped the prison alone after the loss of both of his sisters - when told to dig a new latrine, the ridgeback didn’t stop digging until he was clear of the prison-clan’s territory. It isn’t known how long he dug, or how he surpassed even the guard’s defenses... and when asked, Radine usually just grins like an idiot and shrugs, simply stating: “Dunno. But it’s pretty awesome, right?” |
