INSIPID // ANISIAN'S FAVORITE MURDERPUPPY // THE MOUTH THAT TEARS

Insipid is just intelligent enough to know what he does is wrong, and just intelligent enough to not care. Anisian picked him out of a brood of his squeaking brothers and sisters at the black market Mirror fair, but only after he tore out the throat of his larger sister. Anisian knew he was perfect. The next stages of his life were spent desensitizing him to killing. The fodder that Anisian didn't care to tear apart with his rotclaw were tossed to Insipid. Insipid toyed with them a little before brutalizing them enough to meet to Plaguemother. One day, when Insipid was hiding in his den by the shore, a flock of harpies descended near him. In their massive claws was a rather small but pretty Pearlcatcher, bloodied and bruised. The smell of blood drove him wild and he slaughtered the three harpy sisters. Only the bristling Pearlcatcher was left. Insipid yipped twice and went for the kill. Surprisingly, the small Pearlcatcher matched him blow by blow. She dodged his lunges and nipped at his flank. Then, in a particularly ruthless move, she used her momentum to send him tumbling over the cliffside. After he came to in Nightbloom's gigantic library, he used his superior sniffer to track down the bloodied Pearlcatcher. Never had anyone bested him in battle before. He was rightly and properly furious. What would Anisian think if his prized fighting dog had started a losing streak? Insipid found her in another cove and dragged her by the leg to Anisian. There, Anisian praised her, and told Insipid that she could stay. And so began the friendship of Insipid and Ferona. |
