Tempest was born during what his home clan would come to know as the fiercest of winter storms. It was a desolate area, where he grew up, though as a lightning egg, which must be subject to the harshest of conditions to finish their development, he grew used to it. His parents did not plan to leave him with an Ice clan of all places. But there grew to be a need for it when their family grew from two to seven during a time when their home clan was already full to burst. And so, Tempest was carefully carried by his weeping mother to a clan far away from their own.
The hatchlings, having heard this story twisted and warped by the elders and the whispers that surround Tempest wherever he travels, say that his eyepatches are there to prevent lightning strikes from his rather fickle mood – which they all believe has been brought about by his mother’s tears reacting with the sulphur of the young egg, and permanently affecting his personality and temperament. Due to the rumour mill going into overdrive whenever Tempest returns from an expedition, he prefers to remain out with his sole companion, Froslass, who is well suited to the harsh conditions of the lands that he travels to. Clad with books and stationery, Tempest is a well-read drake, and one who will always prefer the comfort of his own home – his rooms within the wider clan – whenever he returns home to the gossipy nature of some of his clan. Though he finds great comfort and friendship with the clan leaders, he is often antagonised by Iagosta, who insists upon winding him up, much the same as Iagosta winds up his Monkey Wrench familiar. Many in the clan have great respect for Tempest, whose stories, and travels into the treacherous zones neighbouring Maroke clan, are well regarded and purveyed by those who lead the clan. Known to be wise beyond his years and intelligence matching his Lightning origins, Tempest often also dabbles in other pursuits, including aiding the clan in hunting food for the younger dragons, whose peculiar taste for fish only found in icy zones sends him searching far and wide for their foods. While one might think that this would endear him to the hatchlings found within Maroke clan, his mysterious nature, and preference for avoiding the hatchlings aside from feeding them often leads to him and the hatchlings clashing. In his spare time, Tempest enjoys a good fantasy novel, filled with things referred to as humans and their pursuits of electrical engineering, which reminds him of a clan which once rejected him, but his books do little to reduce the raging loneliness within his heart.  Ice is most welcome in a cold drink on a hot day. But in the heart of winter, you want a warm hot mug with your favorite soothing brew to keep the chill away.
