Rhyse's birth clan was an unfortunate casualty of Clan Volmark's lifestyle. She was found as an egg in the ruins of their lair, and raised by Ezil as his heir since he had no children of his own. Knowing no other life, she learned to be fearless, ruthless, and most importantly, ambitious. The Volmark dragons recognize no authority but their own, and so she became the sort of future leader they would acknowledge. Even since she was first able to fly, her adoptive father Ezil brought her along when they ranged up and down the coast of the Southern Icefield, teaching her to navigate and sail the icy waters. Once she was old enough to hold her own in combat, he began to bring her ashore when they raided, and she found great enjoyment in the traditional pastime of her clan. As she grew, she amassed a sizable personal hoard of treasures stolen from unfortunate coastal clans both on the main continent and from their own elemental homeland, as well as the beginnings of her now-impressive bone armor. Ezil was not her only teacher. His consorts taught her the fine art of manipulation, how to catch the ear (or eye) of any dragon in the clan and turn them to her side. She learned how to concoct deadly poisons and how to speak the language of diplomats. She was dangerous and well prepared to take her father's mantle... But he was confident that day would not come so soon. In her ambition, Rhyse challenged her father for the leadership of their raiding clan while he was still in his prime, setting herself up for a difficult battle against her own family. Naturally she used the skills she'd learned throughout her youth and she cheated, leaving Ezil seriously injured and cast out of power. Rhyse now seeks to grow her clan's influence and riches, increasing their range and ability to take whatever they wish. "The young and ambitious Lady of Clan Volmark, Rhyse has forged an alliance with Khione. Her clan will send tribute and act as an extension of the Clansguard in exchange for access to the magical might of Khione's Exalted houseguests, as well as access to her coffers. Khione is pleased with this - by blending the two clans, she claims we'll be better able to defend our own territory, as the Volmark dragons are all capable warriors who lack a permanent home, and grow richer with the tribute they bring in from the coastline. The Exalts seem wary, but Eyvind has convinced his companions that this is something they should go along with for the time being." "Quite honestly, I'm not sure Rhyse made a good deal. Don't inform Khione, but becoming her vassal at the price of regular tribute and conscription doesn't seem like a good trade - though I feel there's a chance that her ambition drove her to become Khione's vassal since we do have a newly powerful stronghold and are growing more successful by the day... Or maybe it was her Search, or something else... Who can say?"
