Biography

QmDAXcL.png
Historian/Collector | Outer Clan

When the matted clump of fur and horns came slouching out from the fragile tunnels that branch out beneath the lair, it was one of the few times that the Inner and Outer clans were united, tense with wary dread. The creature stood alone in the barren, black igneous plateau, swaying like a dying tree before a storm. While most of the clan hastily retreated to their lairs, two moved forward from opposing sides: a stiff Mirror and a swift Wildclaw.

"He's one of the Others," Ghoul hissed once he was within earshot of Vagabond, his eyes four thin blue slits.

"One of the Plaguebringer's get, but..." Vagabond craned his neck as he spoke, coming to a stop beside the Mirror.

It was rare to see the two patriarchs even *near* each other, and rarer still for them to cooperate. Still, they approached the figure together, Ghoul sparking with barely restrained fury and Vagabond juggling between caution and curiosity.

"State your business or leave."

"Better state it fast."

The Ashfall is not a quiet place. The wind howls, the ground rumbles, and the vents hiss. But the silence in that moment was deafening. The stranger remained unmoved, and Ghoul's patience - what little there ever was - was fading fast, and his muscles tensed in preparation.

"I..." The creature's voice was dry and cracked from disuse. Ghoul's patience - what little there ever was - was fading fast, and his muscles tensed in preperation.

"Ghoul." It was enough permission for the Mirror, and he coiled like a snake ready to strike...but then was abruptly stopped. Vagabond stretched a single wing out to block Ghoul's path, and he opened his mouth to spit vitriol. "When was the last time you saw your son?"

The creature's swaying stopped. It...smiled? Just the smallest upward turn at the corners of his jaw before, with a heavy sigh, it collapsed. Ghoul looked almost drained.

"I don't have a son," Ghoul replied after a short pause, the fight drained from his now stony voice.

"So it would seem."

~*~*~*~

Shortly after Ghoul usurped Vagabond as the Voodoo Patriarch, a sickly Tundra appeared. The Plaguebringer seemed to have favored him; she'd spent quite some time carefully sculpting the growths and sores that covered his gangly body. He claimed to be Ghoul's son and sought sanctuary in the new home of his supposed father. Though Ghoul shunned such an idea, the young and inexperienced clan welcomed another body. No one thought much of the fact that they rarely saw him above ground. If they did, it was under the cover of darkness, only a brief glimpse of his shuffling outline before he disappeared beneath the earth again.

But then so much happened. The Clan warred, then split. The Others swooped in to pick up the pieces. The Shade grew ever closer. And when Pyrezumi was forced to exit the sanctuary he'd carved out for himself, it became painfully clear that he was very much not a Tundra.

Ghoul immediately shunned him from the Inner Clan, and so Combustiere tasked the Patriarch of the Outer Clan - and former mate - to accept him. Pyrezumi built new tunnels and quickly reformed his library, becoming a much needed keeper of knowledge. He frequently traveled, always returning with hard-sought information. He kept watch, a silent hulking sentry in the night that seemed to keep the Others at bay better than any other attempt.

He doesn't speak much, and when he does, he just sounds tired. He also doesn't seem to much understand humor or joy or...well, emotions in general, really. Few dragons trust him and eve less like him (save for Haemon, who finds Pyrezumi fascinating and Calabash, who silently adores and pities him). But in these ever changing times, he seems to be an valuable asset. Time will tell if he retains this value.
