Employee Supervisors came into existence as more nocturnes appeared upon the Shifting Expanse. At first Lightning clans bemoaned the appearance of what they felt was an irritating species. But as the Nocturnes began to mimic their behavior and contributed to the Lightning flight's ongoing work efforts, they became more widely accepted. Eventually nocturnes became more numerous in the Shifting Expanse. After a time, a small clutch of eggs was hatched within a lair near the Tempest Spire, in close proximity to Stormcatcher. It was as if the hachlings had imprinted themselves upon him, rather than their parents and fellow clan-mates. The offspring of this clutch delighted in swooping around the entirety of the Shifting Expanse, bellowing "Get back to work!" at any dragons they encountered. Though they could never be mistaken for Stormcatcher himself, the Lightning flight deity found great amusement in how perfectly these Nocturnes had imitated him.

Since maturing, these nocturnes have spread throughout Sornieth and now assist Stormcatcher in assuring that all of his employees are constantly working. When they take up residence in other clans and domains, they still call "Get back to work!" Although reluctant at first, many other flights have become interested in hosting this unique subspecies of Nocturnes, now fondly known as 'Employee Supervisors'.

When these Nocturnes are not actively working themselves, they roost enfolded in their wings, disappearing into dark crevices and fading into the background against dark night skies. Their startlingly bright bellies appear when their wings unfold and they descend to berate unsuspecting slackers.
