Biography

Rx9ESQN.png
A dragon with a less-than-desireable job. Seems fitting with all of the morbid stuff that came out of this Bounty of the Elements thing! Though he has cost me quiiiite a pretty penny, around 5250 gems maybe.
089Byxm.png When Sexton hatched in the clan, no one was really sure what he was destined to become. Belladonna, having learnt from the incidents involving Cadbury, experimented with the little orphan, sending him off to places with different coat colours to see if he could fit in. None of the jobs worked, so Belladonna left him with her daughter Amara. The elder Skydancer educated the youngling in the ways of shadow magic, careful to make sure he didn't get too invested like Alduin did. She took him to her private library and the pair poured over many books on mythological archaeology and preparation methods for the deceased. The Mirror seemed keen, so Amara conversed with her mother (who then went to the Progens for approval) and little Sexton was made the Lair's Mortician and Funeral Director. Himalya stepped up to teach him basic biology
and Amara taught him the proper rites they had learnt from the books. It was here Sexton learnt to paint his body like a skeleton; it was a way of honouring the dead, celebrating the lives they had as well as being as symbol of their ascension to a different plane of existence.

Sexton was put on a trial run where he performed excellently. He was awarded a new form (a Skydancer) and genes. His new duties? Facilitating the many ceremonies for the dead and exalted in the Lair of Many References. He tended to the graves and exalt memorials diligently, and now regularly helps Diana and Boudicca in the Coliseum as a powerful Mage. Juniper and Eurydice have found that due to his...slightly morbid upbringing, Sexton is little afraid of things most dragons would run away from, so this job suited him perfectly. However, things could not remain peaceful for long.

Word had spread about the calamities each flight was facing, and Sexton, new to his job, has finally had his first encounter with the legends of 'The Emperor'. It was subject Amara had overlooked during his early days, by accident or on purpose. Sexton had a feeling he wasn't going to be told straight either way. He snuck into Amara's library on several occasions and read up on them as much as he could before Belladonna caught him. The old Bogsneak warned him against reading such tales of gore and violence. He had brushed it off initially, but over time Sexton grew to understand Belladonna's concern. In the end, it would be up to him to deal with the Emperors should they ever break the forest's boundary and be defeated. He indeed would be the Lair's last defence against one even forming in the first place - Imperials have to be kept as far away from each other as possible and given the proper send off so their energy can dissipate.

The notion of putting to rest the souls within such a species, especially if they form an Emperor, filled Sexton with a sense of dread. He has had many nightmares about them. He sees NightVale often in these nightmares, not as one of the beasts but as a sort of...bystander. Every so often, before those terrible jaws close around him like a vice, she gazes at him balefully out of the corner of his eye. It is almost as if she is reprimanding him...

His line of work has put him in direct confrontation with Thanatos, an unruly Imperial that steals genes from the dead in order to make a profit selling counterfeit scrolls. I fear that if they come to blows, Sexton may not walk away unscathed.
From the desk of Ceres.

@Skydust (I love your username by the way!)

The one that caught my eye was your boy Sexton.

I can't even begin to describe how perfect he is. The purple colors you dressed him up with match perfectly with the bee and ghost, plus his accent gives his primary purple colors as well. You're quite talented when working with colors; I definitely wouldn't have thought of giving him that gene and outfit combo but it works on him beautifully. I must admit if it was me that received that scatter I probably would've scattered over it. Nike deserves an honorable mention; she's a stunner and I almost picked her instead.

For the next person: stay out of my hibernal and the 'vendere' tab please, everyone else is fair game :>

A sexton is an officer of a church, congregation, or synagogue charged with the maintenance of its buildings and/or the surrounding graveyard. In smaller places of worship, this office is often combined with that of a verger. In larger buildings, such as cathedrals, a team of sextons may be employed.

Historically in North America and the United Kingdom the "sexton" was sometimes a minor municipal official responsible for overseeing the town graveyard. In the United Kingdom the position still exists today, related to management of the community's graveyard, and the sexton is usually employed by the town/parish or community council.

The words "sexton" and "sacristan" both derive from the Medieval Latin word sacristanus meaning "custodian of sacred objects". "Sexton" represents the popular development of the word via the Old French "Segrestein".

Among the traditional duties of the sexton in small parishes was the digging of graves—the gravedigger in Hamlet refers to himself as sexton, for example. In modern times, grave digging is usually done by an outside contractor. The general duties of a modern sexton may include (but are not limited to):
- Operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, such as refrigerators, boilers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units, hot water systems, kitchen equipment, and piping systems (i.e. gas, water, fire protection, and sewer systems).
- Liaison with routine contract maintenance & supply companies regarding fire and safety, pest control and cleaning, etc.
- Ordering/receiving supplies and equipment.
- Aesthetic appearance, security, and fire protection.
- Logistics for events on church calendar (chairs/tables, lighting, acoustics, audio/video, etc.)
- Emergency response during bad weather, etc.
- Other building and grounds tasks not handled by a contract service and/or church volunteers, such as the replacement of ceiling light bulbs, returning premises to a neat and orderly state following services and events, disposal of rubbish, and running any local errands or trips that are needed by the church.

- Maintaining the grounds, including grass cutting, hedge trimming and tree works.
- Providing security throughout the church and following building code.
- Report all complete with supervisors.
- Report any mishaps with supervisors.
