Najash

Najash is one of the many fossilized dragons who dwell in the territory that is now known as the Diabase Demesne, a collection of skeletal wyrms whose strong wills caused some of their magic, their essence, to cling stubbornly to their bones after death. The long aeons of their deep burial caused them to be exposed to potent, primal Earth magic, eventually revitalizing them and allowing their determined souls to surge back to awareness- to life.
Najash's first life was thousands of years ago, albeit not as far back as Deucalion Eldcairn, or even Tsaagan Bagatur. The dragons of his antiquity were already many, many generations removed from the primordial drakes crafted by the Eleven who forged the foundations of draconic civilization. In life, Najash was a scribe for a high-ranking merchant in a sprawling Earth lair, an ancient hub of trade. His work exposed him to every facet of the society of his day, and he carefully recorded every transaction his employer's business made. It was a peaceful but busy life, and he lived to a respectable age- although not even approaching Deucalion's great span of years- before passing quietly in his sleep.

It was something of a shock to him to awaken drowsily as if from a long slumber, totally encased in stone, when the great surge of elements sent powerful magic coursing through his petrified bones. He does not recall anything of the afterlife, but firmly believes that it exists, and that he will return to it when his fresh well of vital energy inevitably runs dry.

In the meantime, Najash is considered a respected elder by the dragons of the Demesne. The Earth natives among his clanmates, especially Minerva, are enthralled by his tales of ancient days, no matter how mundane, for history and memory are the bedrock of Dragonhome's culture. This inspired him to begin writing down all that he could remember of his long and busy first life, and then onto collecting, repairing, and displaying every artifact of antiquity he could get his claws on, whether through deals with other historians or by seeking out ancient places he knew and excavating their ruins. Currently, he is the curator of the historical wing of the Demesne library, and his old scribe's instincts are slowly but surely driving him to take over the whole library's organization and maintenance.

He is serious and formal by nature, with a subtle and surprisingly dry wit. He is diligent and dedicated, and dislikes to be interrupted when working, but willing to indulge anyone who wants to learn about Dragonhome's long past, especially hatchlings eager for stories.
