Phantom

He was one of them, surely. At least that was what the will o' wisps that followed him would say to each claim they followed a dragon. He smelt of the crackle of fire and static after the lightning, glowed with an ethereal blue as they did. In truth, Phantom didn't know why all of this was true, only that the wisps believed it was. Part of him wanted to believe it too, that he could be a guiding spirit to doom or aid. Part of him wanted it to be false, so they'd stop following him around and trying to convince him to lead his clan mates through the unworked lands and wilderness.

Phantom's wisps slowly began referring to him as their lord as he demanded more and more of them. It started as simple things, the request for them to only speak ill of strangers, not of his own clan and his desire for them to guide the clan on their gathering ventures. They asked him for more tasks, now the wisps took care of hatchlings crying in the night with their glowing patterns and retrieved items they thought would please their lord. He found himself immune to the tricks of other wisps, who had ventured from the Gladekeeper's domain and the Starwood Strand alike to see this strange lord-wisp their kin spoke of. Most decided to stay, others, having their fill of knowledge, left to retell the story with fresh enthusiasm for it.
