Biography

╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
Newnden
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

To dream of any success at all is to give up a part of yourself. There was little to be said in that regard, as a young hatchling learned. Growing old with tainted suitors did tend to rend little joy.

But they found hope in the dark, kindness through friendship. A clan formed of lost ones, stained as their hides.

We are...

The rumbling truth.

The echoes of our history.

We are the pride of the fallen, the strength left behind. Our land will ring with our voices long after our passing.

The world is not always kind to its inhabitants. The gods ambivalent, too concerned with their own affairs to listen to a young rook's dreams. Too busy even when it hurt, when things were not as they should have been. When clans divided, when matches burnt too low. When a lone pearlcatcher moved out to begin their own clan.

They were a fighter, but they didn't want to be. An artist without the tools. A storyteller, silenced.

The road was long, the pearlcatcher little. But they made it, steps at a time. They searched for answers, visited clans who offered knowledge, food, and drink. Their prayers to their gods went unanswered. They walked and trained, grew up. An adult pearlcatcher who buried their history in the layers of a single pearl. It was easier that way, to review them distantly. To see where things had gone wrong.

But it wasn't all bad. Sometimes things were simply different. They learned alchemy, the touch of magic to transform the world around them into something more palatable. They made friends, young and old who granted wisdom and brought them peace. They left behind the prairies and ruins, traipsed through unfamiliar lands until they came to rest right at the edge. They had been warned away from her domain, the goddess of disease and decay. But as they stepped onto her ground, they felt the hidden acceptance. The knowledge that survival was not always beautiful, but it could be. There was honor in just living to live. And a goddess who remembered what was hers, claws still daring to create and breathe life into the world. One who encouraged growth, even if it came from battles won and lost. The Plaguebringer welcomed them, and Newnden honored her by forming a lair built on knowledge... or death.

Their clan came slowly. A misstep here, a traveler there. Few left once they entered the domain of Plague, after all. But Newnden offered kindess and hope to those lost souls. They offered them rest, a place to grow. Their clan was not the heaviest in population, nor the best to encounter. But it was home to individuals who had found their calling.

The first, a wildclaw not much younger than Newnden themself. He came with a dust cloud on his heels, the stench of burnt sand permeating the air. Newnden called out a greeting, and a welcome.

"I am called Glyn." The stranger replied, inching closer with his head lowered.

"I am Newnden." The pearlcatcher said, soft but not pitying. "Come inside? You need a break, Glyn of the moonlit sands." The wildclaw smiled at the title, his sharp white teeth peaking from behind his lips.

"I suppose that is as fitting a title as any. I will follow you, Newnden, caller to the lost."

With pleasantries exchanged, the two stepped towards the clan that was just beginning. Neither would have known at the time just how long their friendship would last, or the things they would gain from each other's company.
