~The Warrior that Would Become King~
He was by no means the strongest of their troupe, but they had appointed him their leader after the catastrophe. He was the last of their ruler's lineage, after all. He was the clan's heir apparent, and they would trust no one else with their fate. Thamadi wasn't sure what to do, however. While he was an able-bodied Guardian and heir to his father's legacy, he wasn't ready to be thrust into the leadership role when their kingdom had fallen, he was just a warrior prince up until that point. He wasn't ready to take his father's place as king just yet. All he knew that he should do was lead the remaining members of his clan to safety, up into the far recesses of the Crystalspine Reaches. They had made camp in the Crystalspine Reaches, setting themselves up to live there for at least the near and foreseeable future. Thamadi had made sure where they stayed was hidden from those who seeked to do them harm, in hopes that the remainder of the clan could sleep peacefully and recuperate in the days to come from their struggle to escape with their lives. But, Despite finding a safe place for the remainder of the clan, Thamadi felt lost and hopeless. He was a Guardian dragon without his charge, he never left to find it, and being the warrior prince he was he filled the hole he felt from lacking a charge with the purpose of protecting and serving his clan. Now, with the clan and kingdom being no more, and only having the small band of dragons he had, he no longer felt like the warrior prince he was. He no longer felt like he had a purpose. The only thing that he could think of was how they were now being forced to hide in the far reaches, and how his father's final words confused him. "Thamadi, take who you can and escape. Run far, far away, my son, to the mountains. There, you will find the light that will save our legacy." What did he mean, by a light? And how would whatever that light be save their legacy? The legacy of their clan seemed bleak now. Only 10 of the clan remained, how would they rebuild? He sighed, sitting quietly as the remainder of his people settled down in the cavern they had found, looking to sleep or settle around a campfire. He looked at the sky. If only the Arcanist could send him a sign. Then, there was a tinking sound out on the ledge of the cavern in front of him. A bright magenta stone bounced and rolled into the cavern, settling between his massive paws. He watched in awe as the stone morphed into a glittering, ethereal fae dragon. The fae looked around at the remainder of his people before her glowing gaze settled on him. He felt a shiver go down his spine as he looked into her eyes and felt a renewed sense of purpose and power blossom in his chest. Then, he knew in the deepest recesses of his soul that this was the light his father spoke of, this was a sign and gift directly from the Arcanist. His Charge. Thamadi felt the raw arcane power through her glittering scales as he moved his paws to gently hold the small fae. He could feel her heart beat in time with his own and closed his eyes to feel the moment in his soul. He could hear the gentle whisper of her voice in his mind as he lowered his forehead instinctually to her own as she connected to him telepathically. He knew that though he just met this ethereal Fae, they were bonded for life. Resolve filled his eyes as they reopened and he turned to the remainder of his clan, lifting the glittering fae to their view. "I, Thamadi, your leader and future King, announce that the Arcanist has blessed us this day with our new Queen and has given us a sign of a bright and prosperous future ahead!" |
The Night of No Return - The Awakening wrote:
"Thamadi... Thamadi, wake up," The brilliant white guardian said gently, nudging the young prince with her nose.
"M...mom?" Thamadi mumbled out as he blinked the sleep from his eyes, letting out a loud yawn as he was slow to awake. "What's going on?"
"My son, you have to get out of here," His mother said as she urged him to his feet. "Something terrifying is happening. Agents of Shade our on their way here."
Thamadi woke even more, eyes widening. "Agents of Shade? What?! I need to help my father and the guard!" He said, rushing to don his armor.
"No!" His mother said, though she helped him put the golden plates on. "You have to leave. We need to assure you are safe. If anything happens to your father and I, we need you to lead our people. Take whomever you can and leave!"
Thamadi froze. He looked at his mother, who had a look of sorrow and resolve in her eyes. "N-nothing's going to happen to you... right? We're strong enough to get through this.... right?!"
The snow-white guardian gazed at her son. "Thamadi.... there's more of them than our guards can handle.... Your father and I will try our hardest to hold them off, but at this point the only option we have is to evacuate our people. They'll need you, Thamadi."
Thamadi gaped at his mom. This couldn't be happening. How could this be happening?! He was at a loss for words. "No...." He muttered. "No! It's not fair!"
"I know, I'm sorry...." Thamadi's mother said, pulling him into her embrace. "I love you, always. Remember that no matter what happens, your father and I will always be with you."
Thamadi fell silent. He gritted his teeth. He felt bile rise in his throat as his mother held him. He knew this would be the last time they spoke.
"Come, we need to find your father. He'll give you what you need to lead our people," The white imperial said after a moment, slowly releasing her son and turning to lead him to the main room of their royal lair.
